Synopsis: First love can be brutal. Sometimes it can be Fatal.
Grayson Patch hasn’t been human since he was seventeen years old… and that was nineteen years ago. When he rose from the dead, he had no memory of his former life. Grayson desperately wants to recapture his lost humanity. And he’s been told that there is one person in this world who can save him from his current fate before he begins to decompose. One person, whose life must be sacrificed for his.
Cori Abbott has a million things to worry about. She’s the new girl in a school that’s a fraction the size of her old one. Her antisocial tendencies are crippling her ability to make new friends. And then there’s the recent, sudden death of her father, the only man who ever understood her. The last thing Cori wants is the attention of a strange, withdrawn, and consistently angry guy who seems to hate her for no apparent reason. A guy she can’t stop thinking about.
Will Cori break through Grayson’s cold exterior and find the human within, the boy who can love and understand her like no other? Will Grayson sacrifice Cori to rid himself of his undead curse, even if it means losing her forever?
Review: 4 Stars - Fatal is the first title in The Dead of Asher series by debut author T.A. Brock. This YA title takes Zombies to a whole new level as the author creates a great premise for how her zombies survive, while living hidden among humans.
Grayson isn't a happy guy... or I should say zombie. He never wanted to be reborn dead but he was dealt a pretty bum hand and now he's one of the walking dead who live hidden among humans. He lives with two other zombies who he considers his new family and attends high school, all while waiting for one of a few things to happen. One thing is someone who he's been told that might come into his life and can save him, who can make him human again. The other is a time in his life where he'll change into something he won't be able to keep hidden any longer.
Grayson is pretty lost. He's angry and feels like he's just going through the paces of trying to survive. He keeps to himself until one day new student Cori comes to town.
Cori is dealing with her own issues. She's quiet and a bit awkward, yet extremely kind with those she chooses to have close to her. Moving to a new town, starting at a new high school and just trying to survive are a few small issues she has to deal with. When she meets Grayson she's not expecting the reaction she feels nor the hostility she receives from the brooding guy.
One of the great things about this title is how different Brock has created with her versions of Zombies. I liked her story and the larger ark had me gripped and I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. There was a HUGE twist that I didn't see coming which totally threw me when it did. Then another twist happened and at the very end yet another.... I wanted to throw my Kindle because I couldn't take anything more.
Speaking of the ending and how it twists one final time with something so huge that shocked me it gives readers just enough to prepare you for the next installment that you are eager to get your hands on it. I know I am.
The smaller sub-plots and secondary characters rounded out this well written debut and the more I read the more I was interested in what was happening with those along the sidelines as well as Brock's two main key players.
I wasn't sure what to except with this title and I was excited to have a chance to read it. In the end I was glad for the opportunity and am looking forward to what's about to happen next for both Grayson, Cori and their friends.
I highly recommend this title to anyone who loves a great YA story, who loves zombies and anyone looking for something different with heart and romance and twists you won't see coming. Enjoy!

About the Author:
T.A. Brock lives in Oklahoma, where Zombies do not thrive. When not immersed in the world of fantasy writing, she enjoys spending time with her big girl, baby boy, and hubs. Some of her favorite things are coffee (specifically with cream, sugar, and chocolate), music (especially something with a good beat), books (especially paranormal), and Tennis. She despises raw meat and therefore is exceedingly glad she’s human.
