Synopsis: For sixteen year old Peyton Lane, life has never been easy. She’s not popular, overweight, and oh yeah, her sister is embarrassed of her. But over the course of a tumultuous year, everything changes for Peyton. Suddenly all eyes are on her and it’s not because she’s fat. From a pair of handsome twins to a couple of dangerously sexy rockers, Peyton will have to find out who she can trust with her heart. From the ups and downs to the twists and turns—this is Peyton’s story of finding one’s voice and growing into your own.

This is a coming of age romance that involves realistic situations and raw emotions. This is Pieces of Me.

Ten Things I’ve Learned Since I Started Writing: Kira Adams

1. Beta readers are invaluable. One of the first things I did when I decided I wanted to write more seriously was join the site, Goodreads. There are hundreds of people on there who are interested in beta reading, and they all do it out of the kindness of their heart—asking for no monetary compensation. Each and every one of my books went through multiple rounds of beta readers who helped me address problems with the plot, flow, characterization, and even sometimes, spelling and grammar. I honestly believe if it were not for Goodreads and the beta readers help, I wouldn’t be the author I am today.
2. Where is the rush? I hastily made the decision to publish my first book after being fed up with my life in general—I would not recommend this. I missed minor formatting errors and settled for the story as it was even though I had inner doubts about it. Although thousands of readers were happy with the version that was published, I have already edited it once and will probably revise and update the published copies once more if I decide to delve back into the story. I also missed the opportunity to promote at all. Even though I have found book bloggers (and thank God for them), it is still very hard work. I would recommend taking your time to publish your novel.

This is the format I would follow if you are interested in self-publishing: Write the story, edit the story, have the story beta read, put the story away for a little bit of time to breathe while you begin something new, edit the story again, have it beta read one more time, edit it for the final time, format it for e-books and paperbacks, promote, promote, promote, publish.
3. Join online writing communities such as Wattpad, Figment, Authonomy, Scribophile, etc.Joining a site like Wattpad has been life-changing for me. It is a website that merges readers and aspiring writers with published authors and even agents sometimes. You are able to post your stories chapter by chapter and others have the opportunity to read, comment, and vote on your works as well as follow your profile and add your books to their libraries. There are also forums you can join that give advice on the ins and outs of the industry. A majority of the website is the younger generation, tweens and teens, however Wattpad is filled with aspiring writers and published authors of all backgrounds.

I joined the site in September 2013, and since then I have 645 followers, over 7000 votes, and upwards of 35,000 reads on some of my stories. Even though I have not and will not ever receive any monetary compensation from having my stories on Wattpad, I will be a lifer. I cannot tell you how much of a community it is and how supportive my followers have been for me as well as advice I’ve been given on improving my novels; I cannot say enough great things about Wattpad. I think I should be their mascot!
4. Your friends and family will come around. Don’t be offended if your friends and family don’t read your stories right away or even bother to buy them when they are released. Things to keep in mind, everyone has their own life and are busy living it—they will support you when they see the hard work. Also, factor in what genre you are writing in because not everyone will be interested in Young Adult or New Adult Romances.
5. If you have the opportunity to have a critiquing partner who will swap a few chapters at a time, TAKE IT. While beta readers can be helpful to no end, a critiquing partner can and will become passionate about your work; they will push you to write new chapters and even though they won’t go easy on you just because you’ve built a rapport, they will support you to no end.
6. Go with the flow. As much as I love outlines and have used them plenty of times in the past, I have always been a firm believer in writing what you feel is right in the moment. My stories with the biggest recognition have not been planned out, I believe that’s what kept the intensity building from start to finish. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying there is anything wrong with outlines, I am just saying if your gut is telling you to write something, don’t feel confined to your outline.
7. The ups and downs of Print-on-Demand. When I published my first two novels, I chose the website Createspace to help with the paperback copies I would be needing.  I love how self-sufficient their website makes you feel and how quickly they can approve everything for publishing (within 24-48 hours).

Pros:Createspace is very easy to use and navigate.

Cons: The royalties are about 30% your book price, which in the grand scheme of things isn’t much.
8. You do not have to pay a fortune for a cover that could compete in the traditional publishing world, trust me. One of the best decisions I ever made was asking a peer on Wattpad to make my covers professionally for me; little did I know, she actually wanted to be a cover designer! I approached her and we worked out a 6-book deal for a VERY affordable price. She not only works with me to make sure I am satisfied in full, but she has a ridiculously fast turnaround. Sometimes it’s as quick as 24-hours. Her name is Emmy Logan and she is the creator of Cover Me Designs, do yourself a favor and check out some of her creations—you won’t regret it.
9. Find Book Bloggers who review self-published titles. Reach out but be respectful, some of them may agree to review your book even though it doesn’t interest them. Be content and satisfied with each one that that takes the time. They are essentially who is going to help create buzz and build an audience for upcoming titles.
10. If you do not want to deal with the hassle of formatting the eBook—DON’T. I’m not going to release her name in fear she may get too booked up for me to use her on future projects; but, I found a decent eBook formatter who gets it ready for both platforms, Epub and Mobi within a week or two for $20. Twenty dollars is nothing compared to the headaches and hours you’ll spend trying to get everything right.

I'd like to take the time to say a HUGE Thank You to Kira for writing up this guest post. The information you've shared is great and things I would have never thought of or to ask.

I can't wait to read Pieces of Me - it's been purchased and is on my Kindle!

Title: Be My Hero (Forbidden Men #3)

From: the Author
Format: eARC
Add to: Goodreads
Order a copy: Amazon, Barnes and Noble, The Book Depository, Amazon UK

Check out my review: Price of a Kiss (Forbidden Men #1)
Synopsis: Once upon a time, there was this pampered rich girl who was kind of full of herself. She really only cared about appearances and hiding all her dark, ugly secrets under the guise of an opinionated snob. But then Eva Mercer got pregnant, shot by a psycho, and kicked out of the only home she knew. Now she’s broke, unemployed, and has to start anew with a newborn to raise. But how?

On the other side of town, sexy, tattooed orphan, Patrick Ryan, can’t get a break. He’s out on parole for defending the last damsel in distress while trying to help her support her child, but all he wants is to find his one true love. He knows this woman by scent, smile, and laugh, but he’s never actually met her. He doesn’t even know her name. He just knows she’s the key to fixing everything.

One kind of hero can save you from physical harm. Another can rescue you from a different kind of doom. To reach their dreams, Eva and Pick can save each other. But first, they must open their hearts and learn how to trust.

Review: 5 Starts - Be My Hero, the third title in the Forbidden Men series from author Linda Kage is a new favorite! After reading the previous two titles in this series this one is now a tie with Price of Kiss.

Before I start in talking about and swooning over Patrick Ryan, aka Pick I wanted to mention that while these books are a series, they are stand along titles. Each book is about a different male and female lead character, yet all of their stories are a bit intertwined. You won’t miss anything by not reading the previous books, but by reading them you’ll get a fuller idea about everybody and how they relate. So with that out of the way…. Let’s talk about these two characters featured in this title!

We’ve had a chance to meet them in the previous installment yet in this title we find out who these two really are. So, we have Eva and Pick, both from different walks of life.  Eva the rich girl who wanted for nothing and had everything handed to her. And Pick grew up in the system taking care of those around him who he loves and cares about. And when these two meet, the attraction is there, yet it couldn’t be at the worst time for both – Eva is pregnant, broke and without a job and Pick, well… you’ll have to read the story to find out what’s preventing him from pursuing his feelings for Eva.

Eva we’ve known since the first book – Price of a Kiss, to say she’s changed from that book to this one is an understatement. She’d be on her own without her cousin by her side and it works to humble her. It might take a bit of time but between having no one to lean on, at least as she’s accustomed to, it does affect her and readers have a chance to see it happen right before our eyes.

And Pick… what can I say about this good guy in a bad, bad boy shell? WOW! SWOON! And it’s heartbreaking at all the same time. He a hero through and through and you can’t help but cheer for him from beginning to end. His choices might not be the best but you see how he’s just trying his best to do what he thinks is the right thing in the moment. He’s been dealt a terrible hand time and time again and yet he makes the most of it. Works hard for what he has and to give to others and seriously, my heart couldn’t take it for this guy!

The whole story is somewhat magical due to a vivid memory that happened when Pick was younger. He has believed his soul mate is out there and he knows exactly who she looks like so when Eva walks into his life he can’t believe those memories from when he was a kid are finally coming true.

They each have their scars and issues with trust and with good cause. It isn’t until both of their lives come back to haunt them, more than once that you see just who these two really are and, man… let me tell you… there’s some heart stopping moments that’ll make you hold your breath and your heart race.

In the end I can’t talk enough about this book… or this series as a whole. I LOVE them! These guys and their stories, along with the women they find to fill in that place in their hearts and souls, I can’t get enough! Linda writes some truly great characters! I commend her and she’s one of those authors that I’ll read anything she writes.

If you are looking for a great contemporary “New Adult” title, you’ve come to the right place. These are perfect and I can’t recommend these books more! So, what are you waiting for? Go read!!! Get all three and Read, read, READ!

Praise for Elana’s first verse novel, Elevated:

“The taut poetry keeps tension high. The plot is deftly paced, as past intrudes on present, like a photograph emerging in developing fluid.” ~San Francisco Book Review

“Every word Johnson writes carries an emotional heft that lifts readers up to the highest happiness and then sends them crashing down to the depths of despair. It is easy to flow from the first word to the last without ever putting down the book. Johnson shows outstanding talent in this form, and her words are beautiful, important and deeply felt.” ~The Deseret News

HD Cover Title: Her Destiny (Reverie #2)
Author: Monica Murphy
Publisher: (August 25th, 2014)
Add to: Goodreads
Order here: Amazon, Barnes and Noble, The Book Depository, Amazon UK

Check out my review for: His Reverie (Reverie #1)

NOTE: This is a "New Adult" novel. Due to mature content this title is recommended for ages 17+

Synopsis: I knew from the moment I first saw him he was the one. The only boy I could ever want.
The only boy I could ever love.
They say he’s bad for me.
But I know he’s not.
Until the day he rejects me.
And breaks my heart.
Completely.

Everything changes in the blink of an eye. My entire life as I’ve known it is…gone. Secrets are revealed. Promises once made are irrevocably broken. There’s no way my family can get back to what we once were.

So when Nicholas Fairfield walks back into my life like he never left it, I’m furious.

Thrilled. Irritated. Excited.

Conflicted.

Despite my confusion, I want to be with him. I love him. But danger lurks where we least expect it. Someone will do whatever it takes to tear us apart. All I know is: I won’t let them.

Because Nick Fairfield? He’s mine.

Review: 3 Stars - Her Destiny is the second title in the Reverie two book series by Monica Murphy. These are not stand alone titles and should be read in order for readers to understand the story and characters lives that these books focus on.

At the ending of His Reverie readers were left wondering what was about to happen next. Was there a cliffhanger? Oh heck yeah and it was a doozy! Nick wanted nothing more than to protect Reverie at all costs and Reverie could see that Nick was a better person than anyone else saw, even himself. So when the unthinkable happens to Nick he takes a path to save her and it’s throughout this title that we see the aftermath of choices the two made and continue to make which lead them to yet more trouble.

So, hmmmm…. Where to start? Well, I liked this story. I liked the first book and the second, but I didn’t love them. I questioned a few times during my read of both books why certain things happened and found myself confused more than once. It felt a bit rough around the edges and kind of rushed in parts too.

The characters had their ups and downs which added to the rough, or rushed parts even further. Also these two face more trouble than most and I wondered when the heck they’d finally get a break.

The overall story from beginning to end was good and I’m glad that I had a chance to read Nick and Reverie’s story, a chance to get to know these two characters but I was wishing for something a bit more. The chemistry they had worked well and I’m glad that they not only seemed to fit exactly what the other needed but that they had each other in a time of their lives that they needed it most.

If the story had been a bit more polished then I would have been able to rate both of these books higher because in the end it was interesting how these two characters came together.

I believe that fans of contemporary titles between opposite characters from different sides of the tracks will enjoy these two titles.  It is considered Young Adult, however I would put this firmly into the “New Adult” category due to language, drinking, sex and violence.

Her cruel father believes she is a malfetto, an abomination, ruining their family’s good name and standing in the way of their fortune. But some of the fever’s survivors are rumored to possess more than just scars—they are believed to have mysterious and powerful gifts, and though their identities remain secret, they have come to be called the Young Elites.

Teren Santoro works for the king. As Leader of the Inquisition Axis, it is his job to seek out the Young Elites, to destroy them before they destroy the nation. He believes the Young Elites to be dangerous and vengeful, but it’s Teren who may possess the darkest secret of all.

Teaser Tuesday
“If we keep on, dinner will not happen.”
“I’m reconsidering my earlier proposition.”
I smile fully as I run my nose along his. “You want me?”
He groans softly against my lips as he nods his head, his nose moving along mine. We’re basically one; we’re so close, and I don’t think I ever want him to go anywhere else. The air around us is sizzling, and I find myself fighting for my next breath.
“I want you so bad I can’t see straight.”

Boarded by Love by Toni Aleo
Coming September 8th, 2014!

NOTE: This is a "New Adult" novel. Due to mature content this title is recommended for ages 17+

Synopsis: Jude Sinclair here, hockey player for the Bellevue Bullies and lover of all ladies. Hockey’s in my blood, and not to sound full of myself, but I’m good at it…really good. The draft is within my reach—it’s mine to take—but that’s not the only reason people know my name. They know me because of my way with women. They know the score, and I aim to please. I just tend to stay away from repeat performances. In other words, I don’t do relationships beyond my family and friends. I’m happy with life. However, I should warn you that my story and how I see it playing out is about to change due to a certain redhead on campus.

She’s beautiful. Stunning. Breathtaking.

She’s my game changer.

He’s trouble from the moment I see him. I don’t know what I’m thinking, but from the moment I meet his gaze, I’m his. It’s a scary feeling.

I’ve never trusted anyone outside my aunt and uncle—and even that took months. I didn’t have it easy growing up. My mom was usually strung out, and she didn’t give me a second thought. Drugs and the men who paid her were more important to her. It was horrible, but I’m stronger today. Because of my past, security is what I need most. Money assures me that I can take care of myself today, tomorrow, and next month. I don’t want to ever be hungry or go without again, so I work hard for every penny.

Oh, by the way, I’m Claire Anderson. I’m a hard-studying sophomore at the University of Bellevue, dancer for the school dance team, and a burlesque dancer at a club, but that’s my secret.

You may think you know how our story ends, but you have no clue. It’s not easy falling in love… or living happily ever after. At first it may seem so, but when is anything worth having ever won without a fight?

Especially when you’re boarded by love.

Excerpt:

As I turned to leave the room, my eyes fell on a sketch pad and I couldn’t help myself. Sitting back down in the chair I flipped it open and smiled at the drawings inside. Marty had promise for such a young kid. Turning to a blank page, I glanced around and searched for a pencil. Charcoal would be best, but pencil would do.

I started with the lines of his forehead, the curve of his impish nose, the roundness of his cheeks. I was lost in the sketch, enjoying the shadows, the tenderness in his expression, working to capture that moment of utter innocence.

“That’s beautiful.” Her voice was soft.

I looked up from what I was doing, not surprised that she had snuck up on me. When I’m lost in a project, the world disappears; the only thing I’m aware of are the layers of the project I’m working on.

“He’s a good subject.” I turned back to the paper and finished up the shading of the blanket.

“Only because he’s asleep and not moving.” Her quiet laugh sent shivers over my body.

“That does help.” I smiled up at her. “But it’s the contrast. The contrast of him awake versus him asleep. He looks so young right now, so innocent.”

“What do you mean?” She leaned closer to look at the picture.

“He’s so mature, quick-witted.” I whispered the words. “But here he is, looking like the child he is.”

“His teachers say that,” she said. “That he’s quick to pick things up.”

“I’d say so.” I turned and handed her the sketch pad. “I hope you don’t mind that I drew him. The light and shadows were too perfect to resist.” Sort of like her right now. The way the moonlight glinted in her eyes and shone along her hair. Her perfect features would make any artist ache to draw them. Her pixie nose, the heavy eyelashes, the curve of her body hinted at by the oversized sweater she had wrapped around herself. It made my palms itch. Partly because I just wanted to touch her, to see if she would taste as sweet as she looked in that moment.

“Thank you for keeping him entertained.” She stood up. “Can I keep this?”

“Of course.” I stood up and stretched. Her eyes swept over my chest and then back up to my face. Maybe I wasn’t the only one tempted to touch. I hated to admit it, but I had a flare of pride. “I enjoyed hanging out with him.”

I was surprised to realize I meant it. I never would have thought spending time with a six-year-old would have been enjoyable.

“Looks like he did too.” She moved away from the door and I followed her into the hallway.

“Did you get everything settled?”

“I think so.” She frowned.

“What’s wrong?” Her expression worried me.

“Granddad would have hated a large ceremony.” She sighed and headed for the stairs. “But I guess that as a duke there are some things that have to happen.”

“I don’t blame your grandfather.” I followed behind her. “I would want a small ceremony, not to be made into a production.”

“I’m starting to think you don’t like any type of production.” She looked at me over shoulder.

“Not really, no.” I wasn’t going to lie. “I don’t like being the focus, being the center of attention. It makes me uncomfortable.” I wasn’t going to lie, but I hadn’t intended to tell her so much about me.

“And yet you agreed to help me with my grandfather’s funeral.” She turned to me at the bottom of the stairs and set the sketch pad on a table. “Why?”

I stared at her for a minute, enjoying the way her eyes looked up at me, the tilt of her chin, the way her hair cascaded around her shoulders. “I don’t know.”

Unable to help myself, I reached out and touched her cheek with my fingers. Her pupils dilated and she inhaled softly. With one thumb I traced the dip under her plump bottom lip. Her hand reached up to trace my jaw and she took a step closer to me.

“You should be running from me as fast as you can.” She whispered the words. “I’m everything you don’t want.”

“I’m not so sure.”

“I live for the spotlight, it’s my food.” Her eyes were half lidded as she edged closer to my mouth. “And you’ve seen my family. I’m trouble, Max.”

Did I care? I wasn’t sure I was capable of making a real decision as her smell wrapped around my senses. The only thing I knew was that I wanted to taste her, to touch her, to press her against my body. To hear her say my name again.

Dipping my head, I grazed her lips with mine and I was lost. On a sigh, she leaned into me and wrapped her hands around my neck. Tilting her head back, I brought my mouth to hers carefully, softly, tasting. I wanted to deepen the kiss, to hear her moan, to feel the way her body could wrap around mine, but I kept it soft, sweet, and simple. She was in such a hard place, she needed to be protected, treasured by someone.

And right now, I was that person.

EXCERPT:

“Where are you from?”

Ah, an actual question. That means I can ask one back.

“Nebraska, toward the South Dakota and Wyoming side, if that helps.” “I’ve never met anyone from there.”

Michigan was a long way from home. “I usually get ‘not in Nebraska anymore’ jokes, and then I have to decide if I’m going to remind them that’s Kansas or play along.”

“What do you usually do?”

“Play along.”

“You don’t like conflict, huh?” He sounded normal tonight, as if talking to me wasn’t an unpleasant chore anymore.

That was a relief since I’d come to look forward to these moments with him so much. More, maybe, than I’d like to admit.Right. Friends. I distracted myself by considering his question. “Not if it can be avoided. I’m not what you’d call pugnacious, no. But I like to think I don’t back off important issues. What about you?”

“No.” His voice was bleak and quiet. “I don’t. Even when I should.”

Wow, that took a dark turn.

If I could’ve jumped onto his patio without breaking an ankle or waking Sam, I’d have been down there like a shot. The distance between us seemed intolerable, and from the knot in my throat, I didn’t see how I could live another second without touching him, finding out if his hair was as soft as it looked or what he smelled like. I wanted him in a way I never had before.

In high school, I had a boyfriend who played basketball, and we broke up when I left the state. It was a rational decision, and I didn’t miss him that much once I was gone. My freshman year, I went out with a lot of different guys, one date here, two dates there, but I never clicked with anyone enough to focus on them. Sometimes there were hookups with no strings, no expectations. Classes, friends and work seemed a lot more important. The intensity of this attraction was foreign and frightening, if exhilarating. I might already be backing off if I had the faintest sense that Ty was jerking me around on purpose.

Wish he didn’t make me feel this way. It’d be so much simpler if I could friend-zone him.

I realized I still hadn’t touched his verbal grenade. “We all have things we’d do differently in hindsight.”

“What is it about you?” he asked in a wondering tone.

“Huh?”

“You make me…better. Calmer.”

“Like a sedative?” I snickered. It was the least sexy thing a guy had ever said to me, including a junior high squeeze who said my face wasn’t actually that bad.

He laughed, too, a sheepish sound. “I didn’t mean it like that. Just…I’m worried pretty much all the time that I’m dropping the ball somewhere, about to face-plant, but when I come out here and hear your voice, everything backs off like ten steps. I can breathe again.”

Order here: Amazon, Barnes and Noble, The Book Depository, Amazon UK

He’s mine.

Excerpt:

“You sure Evan doesn’t mind me being here?”

“He probably hates that you’re staying the night, but he’ll get over it.” I take a step toward him and pat him on the shoulder, marveling at the solid feel of muscle beneath my palm, beneath the thick fabric of his sweatshirt. Has he gotten taller since the last time I saw him? Broader? He’s so big, standing next to him makes me feel small. “Do you need anything else?” I remove my hand from his shoulder, wishing I could touch him more.

“Nah. I’m gonna change, brush my teeth and go to sleep.” He smiles, looking cute, like a little boy and my heart flutters. When he reaches for the hem of his sweatshirt I step away, watch in silent fascination as he pulls the fabric over his head, taking the T-shirt he’s wearing beneath it upward so I catch a glimpse of his flat, perfect stomach, the little trail of dark hair that starts just under his navel.

I’m breathless, my skin is tingling and when he tosses the sweatshirt onto the couch, I start to walk backwards. “Okay well, good night.” I need to get away from him before I do something really stupid.

          Like jump him.

“Night, Reverie,” he calls after me as I hurry to my bedroom. Glancing over my shoulder, I find him watching me with that penetrating, thoughtful gaze and I turn away, practically tripping over my feet in the hall. I rush into my room, shutting the door quietly before I slump against it, closing my eyes and pressing my forehead against the rough wood.

My feelings for him haven’t stopped. I still want him. I’m still in love with him. So why am I denying myself from being with him? Because I’ve changed and I’m worried he won’t accept me for who I really am? And because my life is so crazy the last thing I need is another complication to muck it all up?

Valid reasons, but why would I deprive myself from being with him? He’s the only one who understood me. Who listened to me. Who cared about me.

          I think he still does.

Cracking open my eyes, I push away from the doorway and shut off the light before I crawl into bed. I lay there in the dark, listening to him move about inside the bathroom, which is right next to my bedroom. He finishes brushing his teeth before he exits the room and I swear I can feel him standing on the other side of my closed door, waiting. Listening for any sign of life coming from within.

I can’t move. I’m frozen, holding my breath, waiting for him to knock on the door, to turn the knob, anything to show that he wants to see me. I want him to both respect my brother’s wishes and defy them. I want him overcome with need yet cautious. I want…everything.

          All of him.

Disappointment crashes through me when I realize he is definitely obeying Evan’s wishes. He doesn’t sneak into my room, doesn’t attempt to talk to me, nothing. I should be happy. Pleased that he doesn’t want to upset anyone.

          Instead, I’m sad.

Rolling over on my side, I punch the pillow beneath my head and settle in for the night, willing myself to fall asleep. I get to spend pretty much the entire weekend with him. Maybe we can work it out then since we’ll have plenty of time. But for now I’ll have to settle for Nick visiting me…

          Only in my dreams.

Book Wars a weekly feature hosted between two book review blogs – A Life Bound By Books & Much Loved Books!

It’s a fact that book lovers know all about the covers of the books they covet.  Often when a title is released here in the US, it’s sometimes vastly different across the pond in the US.  So, Michelle from Much Loved Books and I have come together to create Book Wars to talk about the difference in covers when it comes to the US vs. UK versions.

We hope from time to time authors will chime in with their thoughts as well. We welcome everyone to comment and share their thoughts too! The more the merrier!

Before we get to this weeks Book Wars, we have a winner to announce. The Book Wars winner for Earthbound By: Aprilynne Pike is..... the UK COVER!!!  Thank you to everyone who voted for both books, and for picking a winner.

Also, there's a poll at the bottom of the post that we'd love to hear your input for the two covers! Tell us which one YOU love the most.

Left: US - Right: UK

But after a humiliating incident in front of half her graduating class, Lily wishes she could just disappear.

Suddenly, Lily is in a different Salem—one overrun with horrifying creatures and ruled by powerful women called Crucibles. Strongest and cruelest of them all is Lillian . . . Lily's other self in this alternate universe.

Let the Wars Begin: Its now time to make our decision, let's see what we think about the covers and pick our favorite cover.

Lisa It seems we like to torture ourselves by always choosing books with covers that are hard to pick one over the other. At least that's how it is for me this time... again. I really love BOTH and they're so different from one another too. After taking time to really look closely at both covers and finding things I love about each of them, I think my vote for this week goes to the US cover. I love the background of it. It's a dark and ominous and against the fire's orange. It looks the perfect setting for Trials. The whole US cover just feels like it "fits" for the title and synopsis. I can't wait to read this one soon! So, tell me if you were going to pick up a book, which one of these two would YOU pick? Vote below!
Michelle Like Lisa, I don't know why we torture ourselves with having to pick between two fantastic covers. I love the US edition, the castle in the background, the attention to detail of everything, however I have a copy of the UK version, and this picture of the cover does not do it justice. It has sparkly shiny red/gold hints to it, and has a slit embossed feel to it.

It's a UK win for me this week.

VOTE for YOUR favorite cover of Trial By Fire NOW!

Will they be able to rediscover that the only answer lies with one another, or will they lose each other forever?

Excerpt:

The cabin John’s family owned wasn’t as big as the one my parents owned on Lake Michigan, but what it lacked in size it made up for in entertaining area. There were seven of us: John’s brother Ben, his brother-in-law Mark, and our fraternity brothers Brad, Gabe, and Short Stack. We were huddled around the sixty-four-inch TV that was installed above a brick fireplace. The room was equipped with surround sound, leather couches, and enough alcohol to probably kill a small animal.

I was fine with that. I would rather just hang out than be at some overcrowded bar while girls tried to grind on me. I’d had my fair share of that in college when I attempted to go to parties at our fraternity house or the few times I ended up at the bar with John as his designated driver. I would have rather been at home with Monica anytime.

A loud knock came at the door. I guessed pizza or something. John’s sister had only sent a few bags of chips and some guacamole. That’s as far as food went.

“Hey Chapman, since you’re not playing can you get that?” Ben asked.

“Sure.” I stood up and walked the few feet to the front door.

Upon opening it my eyes widened when a woman with bright blonde hair in a police uniform stood at the door. She was wearing a pair of aviators that she promptly whipped off and showed heavily made up eyes. “Excuse me, I received a call about a noise complaint?” She put her sunglasses in the front of her shirt that was way too low and cleavage-baring for someone who represented the law.

“Oh. I’m sorry, ma’am. It’s my friend’s bachelor party. I’ll tell them to keep it down.” She smiled slightly and shaking her head. “A polite one, eh? I like that.”

“You’re welcome.” It was all I could think of to say. I’d never actually had an altercation with the police so I wasn’t sure what I should say or do.

“But you’ve been naughty and I think it’s time for you and the rest of these boys to be punished.” She stormed inside, slamming the door behind her.

My eyes widened and everything moved too fast for me to even react any farther. The sound
went down on the TV behind me and I heard someone yell something about a stripper as the pseudo-police officer pulled an iPod out of the pocket of her short shorts and pressed it so that the theme from Cops blared from the speakers. She tossed the phone behind me and I heard someone catch it. She then put one hand on my shoulder and used the other hand to rip open her button down shirt, exposing a very large pair of breast with pierced nipples that had tiny tassels dangling from the hoops.

“Go Chapman!” someone else yelled.

The topless girl pushed me back and I fell onto a chair I didn’t know was there. As soon as I sat down, she tossed her shirt to someone behind her then slipped off her shorts, tossing those as well. She stood there just wearing those nipple rings and a pair of white panties that had the words #bachelorparty printed across it.

“Chapman? That’s your name?” she purred, swaying her hips back and forth.

“I like a man with a good strong, name. Hope your body’s just as strong.” She slid onto my lap. I’m not sure where her legs went, but all I could focus on was the way her body moved on my lap. I was trying not to stare, but the rings were dangling in my face and she was twisting and turning so lithe that I didn’t know what she was going to do next.

Slowly she leaned forward, putting her lips to my ear. “Mr. Chapman, I think your phone is vibrating, unless you’ve brought something else to the party.”

“Uh, no, that’s probably my phone.” I scrambled, reaching in my pocket for my phone. I would have thought that would have given her the hint to slide off of me but instead she turned around and spread my legs, sliding her body up and down between me. The guys were hollering so loud behind me, I could barely make out what they were saying or anything else going on.

But my attention was definitely brought back to the moment when I saw the name on my phone: Monica. She was out at Melanie’s bachelorette party, I didn’t know why she would be calling. My first thought was that she got sick and I needed to pick her up so I needed to answer immediately.

I unlocked my phone and slid it to my ear. “Hey, what’s going on, are you okay?”

Her voice was jumbled. Static-y. I could barely make out what she was saying. I thought since there was a great Internet connection for gaming, my cell service would be the same.

“Monica? Monica? Can you hear me?”

The stripper bounced on my lap and reached out for my phone. “Is that the new wifey? Lemme tell her what a bad boy you’ve been.”

I dipped to the left, avoiding her long nails. “Yes, it’s my future wife.”

“Trey? Hello? Who is that?” Monica’s words were scrambled but it was pretty loud and clear that she heard the stripper.

“Hold on.” I put my phone to my chest and looked straight at the girl on my lap. Not at the damn tassels or her underwear, but in her overly done up eyes that were staring at me like there was nothing up in her big blonde head. “Ma’am, I appreciate that you have a job to do but I’m not the bachelor at this party and my fiancée needs to speak to me. If you could please hop on down and go sit on John’s lap it would be greatly appreciated.”

She didn’t say anything. She just stared at me open mouthed as I quickly sat up and she practically fell off my lap instead of just standing like I asked her to. I took my phone and ran out the back patio door, hoping I could get a better signal there.

“Monica? Are you there? Can you hear me?”

“Trey. Internet. Bar. Pregnant.” It was all I could understand in the jumbled mess. Her voice was frantic and that’s all I could get. Whatever those four words meant, it couldn’t be good and I knew I had to go back to her.
