Synopsis: Daniel’s got everything figured out. He makes a good living as an artist ... mostly through offering "private shows" to the wives of local wealthy businessmen. He never stops playing the game and never lets anyone touch his heart. But when his current fling offers him a few hundred an hour for art lessons for her reclusive, college-dropout daughter, Daniel finds himself forgetting his own rules. The girl is rude. Insulting. Incredible.
And she sees straight through him.
Stella is hiding from the world, not because she wants to, but because crippling panic attacks await her every time she tries to live a normal life. She's determined to push everyone--including her handsome new art teacher—away. But Daniel makes it utterly impossible. The guy is irritating. Mocking. Magnetic.
makes her want things she knows she can never have.
What starts as a battle of wills turns into passion, where giving in means facing the things that scare them most.
Review: 4.5 Stars - for Author Mila Ferrera’s Everything Between Us was a story that I had to read for more than one reason the main one being as someone who’s suffered with anxiety and agoraphobia from a young age I wanted to see how well this affliction was portrayed. It was pretty spot on and I have to commend Ferrera on how well she’s written both Stella and Daniel.
For me this review is pretty much going to be based on the Anxiety and agoraphobia part of the story. I think because of how close to home this book was. It brought back memories from the majority of my life and while some was hard to read it was done extremely well and was more than honest.
I could feel what Stella was feeling; I was able to get into her head so well that at times it felt more like she was in mine. There was never a time while reading her journey that I felt her story was slighted at all. Ferrera covers all the bases of this crippling medical condition.
Stella as a character has more strength then I had at her age. She has no support until she meets Daniel and in a way I think it was partially her fault for not reaching out sooner. Yet at the same time I understand it all because living with this makes you want to do one thing more than anything else… have some kind of control over your body and your emotions. It’s hard to reach out when you feel so far out of control and that came through to me as a reader.
I hated Stella’s mother. Hated her with a passion. It’s hard living with someone who has this, ask my parents. They feel helpless and want nothing more than to understand and take this away from the person suffering, but her mother was heartless and only cared about herself. And her father didn’t pay her any attention either, leaving and never looking back. I have some huge hate for her parent that’s for sure.
And then we have Daniel who reminded me over and over again of my husband. Not for how he made his money but because he’s always been behind me, rooting for me and has the patience of a Saint. Daniel has his own issues he’s dealing with and his only family stress but he see’s something in Stella and Stella in him.
Their relationship was a highlight because it’s not often that people with this are in a position to find someone who’s willing to deal with all that comes with being an agoraphobic. It takes A LOT of work and understanding to make it through day to day.
All in all I loved this book. It is extremely real, honest and wonderfully written. The characters could be the person next door or down the street. Ferrera I commend you for writing this. It was emotional for me in more ways than one and I’m glad that I had the chance to read this. Thank you for writing what could have been my life and for making sure you wrote it from beginning to end. I highly recommend this title to everyone who likes a contemporary New Adult title. Enjoy!

This sound like the kind of book I really enjoy. I'm adding it to my TBR list. Wonderful review.
ReplyDeleteDaniel sounds like a fantastic character and probably awesome to read a bout when he reminds you of your own husband! :) Glad you liked this one, Lisa! It sounds very character oriented so definitely right up my alley!
