Synopsis: 22-year-old Beryl doesn't know why Gavin Slater trashed his penthouse, abandoned his dog and fled the country. But as his house sitter, she must pick up the pieces for the front man of the white-hot rock band Tattoo Thief.Review: 4.5 Stars - Tattoo Thief by author Heidi Joy Tretheway was everything I could have asked for and then some. Drama, angst, mystery and romance between two opposite characters are just a few of the things that I consider icing on the cake with this title.
When ultra-responsible Beryl confronts the reckless rock star, she wants to know more than just what to do with his mess. Why is he running? What’s he searching for? And is he responsible for the death of his muse?
New York newbie Beryl must find her footing in Gavin’s crazy world of the ultra-wealthy to discover her own direction and what can bring him back.
Steamy, sassy and tender, Tattoo Thief is a story of breaking from a comfort zone to find a second chance.
Beryl is a planner. She doesn’t take chances and is stuck
in her small town working two jobs she’s not happy with. An opportunity comes
in the form of a new job that just so happens to be clear across the country,
it doesn’t take long for her to jump at the chance and take the adventurous
choice and escape her rather dull life.
On the job she meets some rather interesting people
stemming from all walks of life through their homes and pets. Her new job then
just so happens to be a house sitter, this to the rich and sometimes the
famous. One of those family members is Gavin Slater. He’s a rock star and he’s
vanished after trashing his penthouse. It’s Beryl’s job to get his house back
in order and take care of his dog.
How these two characters meet was a cross between cringe worthy
and comical. Beryl speaks her mind and has to do some serious back tracking so
she doesn’t lose her job. She’s concerned, confused and frustrated about how
Gavin managed to wreck his house, leave his dog and why he’s not coming home.
Gavin, what can I tell you about this guy? Sigh… sorry,
sorry. Where was I? Oh.. Gavin. He’s dealing with some heavy issues. To find
out what those issues are you’ll just have to read the book. One thing I loved
about this male lead was his redeeming qualities. Since we didn’t get a chance
to read the book from his point of view (bummer) you have to imagine what he’s
going through while he’s looking for the things he feels like he’s lost.
Beryl and Gavin’s story made me laugh, made me smile,
made me cringe and made me, quite often I might add groan for the choices each
made or the comments that were said. There was one point in the book I just
KNEW what was coming and I didn’t see how Beryl wouldn’t get into trouble for a
choice she made pretty early on in the story.
Oh and Beryl’s friend Stella?… That girl made me see RED!
I seriously loved this book. It’s another title that I
didn’t want to end. I loved the story, the characters the added surprise of these
two characters communicating back and forth via emails and chat. I loved that
there wasn’t an insta-love to them. I loved that these characters were flawed,
which I’ve been finding a lot in the books I’ve been reading recently. It just
shows so much more about the characters when they have flaws. Watching these
two find out who they are and to find their footing in their changing lives and
the world around them was written amazing well.
All in all, Heidi Joy has written a wonderful “New Adult”
title with so many things that I loved from the characters to the writing to
the story. From beginning to end I loved it! This is one of those books that I
could read time and time again, and I’m excited about that. I’m looking forward
to the companion novel that’ll follow Tyler and Stella’s story, which I can’t
wait to see. Exploring what all this drama with Stella is all about AND to find
out the story behind Tyler’s stolen Tattoo. I HIGHLY recommend this title.
