Let the Wars Begin: Its now time to make our decision, let's see what we think about the covers and pick our favorite cover.

Lisa It's so funny that Michelle has chosen this book for this weeks "Wars". I just received a finished copy and I can't wait to read it.

However when you look at each of these covers side by side I kind of love them both. And the US cover looks so much better in person than just in the graphic here. Yet that's almost always the case, right?

And while I love them both, there can only be one favorite, and I'm thinking it has go to the UK cover. I mean look at it! It's kind of stunning the way they've used the tree, branches and leaves to portray lungs. As I haven't read the book... YET, I can only imagine that this book just might hurt my heart a little and for some reason that makes this one a must read even more so.

So, this week I'm voting for the UK cover because it's stunning in it's own right and makes me want to put this one to the top of my reading list even more so.

Michelle This is such an easy choice for me. I think the USA cover is nice, but I don't get how it connects with the story. The UK cover though is a different matter. I love how the subject matter of the story has been portrayed into the cover of this book. I love how the inner workings of a lung have been used to make this upside down tree, its eye catching and makes you want to see what's inside the pages. If you visit the authors webpage, she has a different version of the UK cover up, her one has house along the top of the book, so if its turned upside down you see houses with leaves falling off the trees onto them. Anyway, back to my thoughts. It's a UK win for me this week, and I wan't wait to make a start on this one.

Lisa One thing I can say about the art departments for each publisher for this trilogy is that they have without a doubt done an AMAZING job with these covers. Not only do they fit along amazingly well when you take a look at the books side by side each other, but they are BOTH pretty beautiful to look at.

And while I do love the UK covers, there's just something about the US covers that pulls to me a little more. There's more depth and more to find the longer you look at them. So, this week... my vote goes to the US cover. And I'll admit that I haven't read the book yet. I've heard such mixed reviews and I loved the first two books that I just can't bring myself to read what the HUGE controversy is all about. I have an idea or two and I'd rather be left without knowing for the time being.

Michelle This is such a tough choice this week. Like Lisa said, the artwork for both of these books is spectacular, and that just makes it so much harder to choose.

I love how bright the US cover is, and I love the effect of the water in the middle, and the run down buildings on the bottom.

The UK one is just as eye catching. I love the feathers, I love how she is standing alone, but looks strong and powerful (this just makes me want to read this book even more...yes I still have to read this one even though I own it)

I am going to vote for UK this week, and that is purely because it matches the books I have already on my shelves.

Lisa  This is a HUGE, MEGA, FAVORITE trilogy of mine... and I LOVED this book. I'll totally admit that I haven't read the last one because I'm dreading what I think happens. But I love these covers. They are amazing in person and I love seeing them on my shelves. Well, the US ones on my shelves. I have seen the UK covers in person at book shops but I'm still partial to the US covers. There's just something so incredible about them. I see something new on the US covers just about every time I look at them. Love tree too!

So this week my vote goes to the US cover! Check out my review for: Divergent

Michelle This is an easy choice for me this week. While I do love the USA cover, the scenic view of the city and ho the symbol represents the factions, I have to go with the home side this week, UK.
I love the colouring of this book and in real life the leaves look fantastic on the cover. I love the sky in the background, but also how it is just the silhouette of a person standing alone.

This week while I was looking for books to put into this weeks WoW post I picked two that are coming out in the next week or two. Two books that I'm really looking forward to reading. I think these two pretty much speak for themselves. Also, if you haven't read the first book in the trilogy by Debra Driza - Mila you should check it out. It's a great sci-fi title that had me ready for more at the end of the first book.

Two books this week! I enjoyed the first book Dualed and am looking forward to Divided to see what happens next. And then Life by Committee just sounds pretty interesting and filled with trouble. Yep, sounds great if you ask me.

It’s a fact that book lovers know all about the covers of the books they covet. Often when a title is released here in the US, it’s sometimes vastly different across the pond in the UK. So, Michelle from Much Loved Books and I have come together to create Book Wars to talk about the difference in covers when it comes to the US vs. UK versions. We hope from time to time authors will chime in with their thoughts as well. We welcome everyone to comment and share their thoughts too! The more the merrier! Book Wars is a new feature for both of us which we hope to post every Monday, while we get it up and running this is subject to change as we participate in other features or tours we have committed to prior to setting up Book Wars.

About the author:

Veronica Roth is from a Chicago suburb. She studied creative writing at Northwestern University, and wrote DIVERGENT (Katherine Tegen Books, May 2011) and INSURGENT (May 2012). The third and final book in The Divergent Trilogy, ALLEGIANT, will come out on October 22, 2013. In the meantime she will spend endless hours browsing Wikipedia in her pajamas as she eats corn flakes. (Or some other kind of bland breakfast cereal.)

Let the Wars Begin: Its now time to make our decision, let's see what we think about the covers and pick our favorite cover.

Lisa Gosh, when Michelle and I started talking about this feature I didn't realize how hard this might be. They are both so different yet fit the story both in their own ways. The US cover has the faction symbol and gives an over all feel of of things brewing under the surface of the city. The UK cover give the impression of just how alone the girl is and the birds... of freedom. These are just my impressions of the covers based on what I see and what I know of the story. If you haven't read them, you SHOULD! So, now the hard part. Choosing a cover. I'm going to have to choose the US cover this time. If the UK cover would have been done in different colors it might have given the US version a run for it's money in which is MY favorite version.

So, US for me this round.

Michelle I love both of these covers.  The USA cover has the faction symbol on the front, and in the background a city and you can see how it all links together with the story.  The UK one though has the city in the background but also the ravens, which for those of you who have read the series, if you haven't then you need to, know where this connection comes from and its symbolisation.  It also feels like the person on the cover is alone, which also links in with the story.  If I have to choose my favourite cover I'm going to stick to my roots and pick the UK cover
