Although I write paranormal books, I was always skeptical about the supernatural – until I moved into the second floor of an old Victorian house in my little town of Lewisburg, Pa.
I had lived in old places before and never noticed anything eerie, but from the first day in this apartment, I felt someone watching me. I would be down on my knees cleaning the hardwood floors, glimpse a shadow out of the corner of my eye and look up, certain that somebody was there. But I was always alone.
Yet... I don’t think I really was alone.
For example, one day soon after I moved in, I placed a tall drinking glass on its side in the kitchen sink and went to work in another room. A few minutes later, I heard a loud “clink” and went back to find that somebody had righted the glass. There was no way it could have happened on its own. I guess she was a tidy ghost.
And a strong one, because another time I came home to find my heavy bookcase pulled out from the wall toward the center of the living room. I called my landlord to ask if he’d needed to move it for some reason, but it was clear that he had no idea what I was talking about.
After about a year of things like that happening, I stopped in at the hair salon that occupied the building’s first floor and sheepishly asked if anything weird ever happened there. Not only did all of the stylists have stories, but they admitted to holding séances to communicate with the spirit. They all spoke of her with affection, like we were all friends.
I never understood why a ghost would bother to move a bookcase or right a glass, and yet I can’t explain those types of instances, either, or the pervasive feeling that I was never alone. I truly believe she exists.
I actually live in an even older house now, and... nothing. And the weirdest part of the story is, I kind of miss the ghost.
Title: Jessica's Guide to Dating on the Dark Side
Synopsis: The undead can really screw up your senior year...
Marrying a vampire definitely doesn’t fit into Jessica Packwood’s senior year “get-a-life” plan. But then a bizarre (and incredibly hot) new exchange student named Lucius Vladescu shows up, claiming that Jessica is a Romanian vampire princess by birth—and he’s her long-lost fiancé. Armed with newfound confidence and a copy of Growing Up Undead: A Teen Vampire’s Guide to Dating, Health, and Emotions, Jessica makes a dramatic transition from average American teenager to glam European vampire princess. I'd probably miss the ghost just because it's a presence that I'd probably get used to over time.

Some ghosts/spirits/whatever you want to call them just seem nicer than others. There's definitely something in my house, but we haven't had any experiences in a while with him and I kinda miss him, so I can understand where you're coming from. Thanks for sharing Beth :D
