Book Wars! Fall Guy By: Liz Reinhardt (16)

Book Wars a weekly feature hosted between two book review blogs – A Life Bound By Books & Much Loved Books!

It’s a fact that book lovers know all about the covers of the books they covet.  Often when a title is released here in the UK, it’s sometimes vastly different across the pond in the US. So, Michelle from Much Loved Books and I have come together to create Book Wars to talk about the difference in covers when it comes to the US vs. UK versions.

We hope from time to time authors will chime in with their thoughts as well. We welcome everyone to comment and share their thoughts too! The more the merrier!

Before we get to this weeks Book Wars, we have a winner to announce. The Book Wars winner for Transparent By: Natalie Whipple is... the US COVER!  Thank you to everyone who voted for both books, and for picking a winner.

Also, there's a poll at the bottom of the post that we'd love to hear your input for the two covers! Tell us which one YOU love the most.

NOTE: This is a "New Adult" novel. Due to mature content this title is recommended for ages 17+
Synopsis: Evan Lennox is going nowhere fast. She's living with her grandparents after her parents bailed on her, she got kicked out of her posh private school, her ex-boyfriend proved to be the biggest sleaze imaginable, her former best friend is a back-stabber, and her current best friend is stuck in backwoods NJ. To top it all off, one teeny, tiny fire she lit to burn some memories of her ex goes a little out of control and winds up igniting a good piece of a very powerful family's pecan orchard.

Evan lands her pampered behind in court and gets sentenced to community service. Which she knows she deserves. But the hard labor and humiliation may be her undoing.

Until she meets Winchester Youngblood on the site.

Everything about him is tricky, confusing, not at all what it seems, and so sexy, Evan can't resist pulling closer. But every step she takes to get to know him gives her more of a reason to back up and put him as far out of life as she possibly can. Because Winch is one hundred percent complicated, and Evan isn't looking for that. At all. She needs to meet a nice, responsible guy, not share searing kisses with the charming hustler she met after they both got sentenced in court.

But Winch is so much more than what he seems, and Evan finds out that she's falling hard for the guy everyone underestimates and writes off. And Winch realizes that Evan is the one person who's ever challenged him to ask for more out of his life, and her courage inspires him to try to be the person she sees when she looks at him. With every single odd stacked against them, Evan and Winch need to find out whether they have what it takes to fall for each other.

About the author: Liz Reinhardt was born and raised in the idyllic beauty of northwest NJ. A move to the subtropics of coastal Georgia with her daughter and husband left her with a newly realized taste for the beach and a bloated sunscreen budget. Right alongside these new loves is her old, steadfast affection and longing for bagels and the fast-talking foul mouths of her youth.

She loves Raisinettes, even if they aren't really candy, the Oxford comma, movies that are hilarious or feature zombies, any and all books, but especially romance (the smarter and hotter, the better), the sound of her daughter's incessantly wise and entertaining chatter, and watching her husband work on cars in the driveway.

Let the Wars Begin: Its now time to make our decision, let's see what we think about the covers and pick our favorite cover.

Liz I picked FALL GUY. I had the same cover for US and UK until it got bought by Random House UK. They came up with a fun, gorgeous cover that has a ton of great movement and bright, eye-catching fonts! I love the sexiness and the element of blissful, head-over heels love it portrays. But the US cover is my favorite for personal reasons. I had the sketch idea for FALL GUY in the back of my brain, and I was procrastinating, flipping through pictures. When I say the picture of the dark haired girl grabbing his chin, her expression and movements all saying, "You're mine, and you're going to love being mine!" I knew she was Evan and the guy looking at her like he never wanted to see anything else was Winch. I've never had such an instant case of, "That's my characters!" and have never identified so strongly with a photo. I have a poster of that cover in my office, and it helps remind me of why I write romance...that passion and undeniable love
Lisa While I love the model in the cover of the UK copy... go Pepe! I think I have to choose the US cover for this week as it looks a bit more finished; maybe even a bit more sophisticated while the UK version is a bit more playful. However, since I haven’t read this title yet, I could be wrong and the playfulness of the UK version might fit the story much better… for me I’m basing this week totally on what’s eye catching to me, so I’m all about the US cover this round.
Michelle This is another choice for me. I actually got my copy of this book from Liz for review, and I fell in love with the cover immediatley. When I saw it had been picked up by the UK I wasn't impressed by the cover, I think having read the story it's easy for me to compare the covers to the characters, and the UK one doesn't scream Evan and Winch to me, they don't fit the picture of them in my head and she just doesn't look or feel like she has a fiery personality like Evan does. Its a USA win for me this week, this couple fit the characters perfectly.

  1. I like both too, but I like the USA more one because of the font and the models look more into each other.
