Would you ever want to spend the night in a haunted location? If so, why?

I thought Ien, the main character from Transcend, would be the best one to answer this. So, from Ien Montgomery:

I would never want to spend the night in a haunted place. I live in one every day. My mind. There is nothing more terrifying than the tricks my mind can play on me.  I can never tell what’s real and what isn’t. And the worse thing, some of the most horrific images from my mind turn out to be real. Very real.

3 or more of your characters – please discuss various candies and why they love it. (Kind of like arguing what candy is the best?)

This is definitely a question for the angels of Celestium in the Requiem Series:

Nesy – Yes, candy. One of the few things I love from humanity. What kind? Dark chocolate with mint. So good.

Zane – Mint? Are you crazy? Mint is never good. Peanut butter - now that’s good. Like in a peanut butter cup. Delicious.

Nesy – You’re nuts. Literally Zane. Mint trumps Peanut Butter all the way.

Zane – Absolutely not. I think you’ve been spending too much time vanquishing dark creatures, you’ve lost any sense of what’s good.

Nesy – At least I’m working against evil and not sitting on the sidelines, eating peanut butter.

Cas – You both need to shut it! Everyone knows Twizlers are better than any chocolate candy on Earth.

Mikayel – Can you believe this, Gabriel? They actually think they know about human candies. Clearly they never tasted Turkish Delight. If they had, they would never bother with these more modern choices.

Gabriel – You really think Turkish Delight is the best sweet treat humanity has to offer over the centuries? I’m with Zane – you Sentinals are clueless! I think caramel is the very best humanity has to offer.

Nesy – There you go...I guess there is no way we will ever be able to agree on candies!

KAIN: I am fascinated with spirits and would enjoy the opportunity to investigate such a location.

HYDE: Hellz ya. Bring it on. I ain’t afraid of no ghost.

CADDOC: *glances away* Yeah, I mean, what Le Manoir recruit wouldn’t, right?

Hope dumps the box of Smarties on their usual table at the junior ranks. Round pieces of candy-coated chocolate roll across the surface, spin to a stop. “Take what you want. Except the red ones. They’re mine.”

Caddoc raises an eyebrow. “Because you're a blood-thirsty monster hunter?”

Hope snorts. “No, because they’re awesome, you tool. I’m definitely a red Smarties girl. It’s the best of all worlds – candy and chocolate and my favorite colour.”

“Huh.” Hyde pops a blue Smartie into his mouth. “I’m more of an M&M guy. Same concept, but they melt in your mouth, not in your hands. Besides, I figured Kain would be the one all over the smarts.”

Kain frowns. “Actually, I prefer the Caramilk chocolate bar. The mystery of how they get the caramel in the center fascinates me.”

Hope leans back in her chair. “Yeah, we should have seen that one coming. How about you, Caddoc.” She snickers. “Big Turk?”

Caddoc flexes, ignoring the slight. “Mr. Big, baby. All the way.”

The rest of the unit groans and fires their uneaten candy at Caddoc’s grinning face.

Amanda, welcome back! I have a could of questions for you, so how about we get started?

You write about many different supernatural/horror creatures, do you have any in particular that are your favourite?

I have a real fondness for djinns because they aren’t necessarily good or evil (though in my little word they are annoying. Very, very annoying). The thing I like most about them is that they aren’t bound by any earthly rules so they can use whatever kind of magic they want. Plus, there is the whole flying carpet thing, which is too cool for words!

What supernatural being would you want to be, or hate to be?

I would love to be a ninja, which I know isn’t strictly a supernatural being but in head they are. In fact I see them kind of like Buffy but with roomier clothing and I would definitely ensure that I could jump from roof top to roof top. As for what I would hate to be—basically anything that isn’t a ninja! Though top of the list would be a vampire or werewolf.

FAMINE: But…for every Kiss I ate, I’d have to kiss—

WAR: Not Death.

DEATH: **shrugs** Sorry, I’m spoken for.

WAR: Ditto.

FAMINE: **glances at Pestilence** So…if I kiss you after every Kiss I eat, I’ll still be down one calorie per Kiss…

WAR: Only if it’s a passionate kiss. A peck on his cheek won’t get you anything. Other than maybe a skin disease.

PESTILENCE: **Blushes** Did you know there can be salmonella in cocoa powder?

FAMINE: **sighs** This is why I don’t eat chocolate.

WAR: You don’t eat chocolate because you don’t eat.

DEATH: **smiles cheerfully** Next time, I’ll bring Twinkies. People invent the most amazing things!

What are your plans for Halloween?

Caddoc: The last Halloween party I went to, my parents summoned a houseful of vengeful spirits and left me to fight them off. Sort of a rite of passage. So, pardon my French, Lisa, but, are you shitting me? My plans? Staying alive, how’s that for a plan?

Hyde: Damn, Caddoc, socialize much? Ignore him, Lisa, he’s an asshole. But, yeah, ditto on the staying alive.

Kain: I’ll be on zombie bioroid duty that evening. There’s a training mission planned for the new recruits and I’m in charge of…well, never mind….I can’t really say without putting your life at risk.

Hope: *evasive* I’m going out. Have a thing.

Hyde: You are? *frowns* What thing?

Hope: A thing. Out. Anyway, Lisa – what’ve YOU got planned? I suggest carrying some dried blackberries with you.  Wards off the douchebags. Supernatural ones, that is – for the mortals, I recommend a swift knee to the groin.

In the evening, I’ll be back at C.U.L.T. boarding school in New Hampshire, where my BFFs Quinn and Raven are throwing a mega party. I’m so lucky, having the best of both worlds.

Quinn coerced me into watching The Conjuring, even though he knows I’ll face something far scarier in my confrontation with Cadifor, the Lord of Darkness, in Eiros. He plied me with red velvet cake and popcorn and orange soda, so I forgave him when he tried to kiss me.  It’s really tough having a sexy warrior boyfriend and a super hot BFF who’d like to be my boyfriend. My conflicted feelings? Far scarier than any horror movie.

What are your plans for Halloween?

Piper: I plan to decorate the Underworld. Maybe try to make it a bit scarier, especially at the entrance. People should be scared when they come here. They should be scared about how they’re going to get judged.

Can you tell me a bit about the last scary movie you watched? (Were you alone? What snacks you had? What movie you watched? Did it scare you, etc.)

Piper: It was some scary movie about how global warming was killing the earth. And the cities were building domes overhead to keep the heat out. And terrorists were fighting the government. It was horrible. (And it happens to be my real life. Yikes!)

 Would you ever want to spend the night in a haunted location? If so, why?

Gina Covello (from the Vamped series): Been there, done that in Fangtabulous.  If the ghost is murderous, clinically insane, bent on possessing my boyfriend or all of the above, I’m gonna have to say hell to the no.

Tori Karacis (from the Latter-Day Olympians series): Bring it on.  So far I’ve fought down gods, goddesses, titans and other terrors.  Ghost, hah!  Full on poltergeists and you might have me shaking in my boots.

3 or more of your characters – please discuss various candies and why they love it.

Does it have to be candies?  Sweets I’ve got.

Gina: Mochachino for the win! Cocoa and caffeine, can’t beat it.  Unfortunately, my all-liquid diet is now limited to blood, so to get my fix, I have to stalk the occasional Starbucks.

Bobby Delvecchio (Gina’s above mentioned boyfriend): Gummy bears.  I don’t know what the heck flavor they are, but the light yellow are the best.  Pina colada?  Pineapple?  Whatever, there’s a definite order to eating gummy bears, starting with the green and moving on through orange, dark yellow, red and finally, my favorite.  I like to save the best for last.

Tori: Oh, sorry, my mouth was full!  Chocolate croissants.  Hands down.

What are your plans for Halloween?

We’re having a Harvest dance, and I’m in charge of the apple bobbing basin! But I think apple bobbing is way too easy, don’t you? So I’ve invented the Apple Sucker, which will stir the water and suck the apples down to the bottom of the basin. As long as nobody drowns, it’ll be a lot of fun.

You don’t think anybody will drown, do you? I’d get grounded for sure.

Can you tell me a bit about the last scary movie you watched? (Were you alone? What snacks you had? What movie you watched? Did it scare you, etc.)

I don’t know what a movie is—we don’t have those in 1914. But I did read an Amazing Stories about an evil Egyptian pharaoh who kidnapped Lana Powers, and Dirk Knifely had to go and save her. That pharaoh chap gave me the willies!

What are your plans for Halloween?

We’ve got an All Hallow’s Eve Derby Match—the Apocalypsies against the Tilt-a-Girls. We’re going to stomp their derby butts, and then Michael and I are dressing up as angels and going trick-or-treating. He’s never done it since he’s not really human and all. So I predict I’ll be on a total sugar high for about the next month. Which is awesome.

Can you tell me a bit about the last scary movie you watched? (Were you alone? What snacks you had? What movie you watched? Did it scare you, etc.)

My sister made me watch one of those romance movies; does that count? Because it was HORRIFYING. All the kissy faces and the angsting made me want to smack my head against the wall. I don’t really watch horror movies any more, though. They’re either really bad, or they give me demon flashbacks. Once you’ve seen the real thing, you don’t really feel like watching it for fun, you know?

Yes, Tulip would love to! Tulip and her best warlock friend, Dexter, love to ghost hunt so spending the night in a haunted location would be a dream come true! They could use all his cool spy scopes and ghost cameras to capture some live footage. Their only unsolved case (to date) is why the witches of Poison Ivy coven all died together. On the same day. While drinking coffee in the attic.

Morgan: Chocolate covered honey nuggets are the best candy ever.

Tulip: Really? I think Witches Kisses rock glittery, witch wands.

Sienna: Sorry, but you’re both wrong. Otis Skullmeister cookies are the best.

Tulip: Um, aren’t we talking about candy?

Morgan: I guess I should drop the chocolate covered honey nuggets and vote for my mom’s cookies. I would have voted for her if the question hadn’t specifically asked about candy.

Tulip: Your mom’s the Otis Skullmeister cookie master?

Morgan: Yeah, she loves baking.

Sienna: Cool, huh?

Tulip: Way cool. Think you could score me a batch of oatmeal toffee chocolate chunk, Morgan? I’d love to give my associates at Spells & Spies a new treat after we solve our next case.
