"Waiting On" Wednesday is an event hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine. The purpose of this weekly event is to spotlight a soon-to-be-released book that you are very much anticipating. "Waiting On" Wednesday will also give bloggers an opportunity to share ideas for our TBR lists.

Title: Bounce (Boomerang #3)
Author: Noelle August
Publisher: William Marrow, 304 Pages (August 25th, 2015)
Add to: Goodreads
Order here: Amazon, Barnes and Noble, The Book Depository, Amazon UK

NOTE: This is a "New Adult" novel. Due to mature content this title is recommended for ages 17+

Synopsis: Playing the occasional club gig just isn’t cutting it for twenty-two-year-old cellist Skyler Canby, who’s trying to support herself and her mother back home in Kentucky. Persuaded by her best friend Beth to accompany her on an audition for the first feature film launched by Blackwood Entertainment, she figures why not? Beth’s a shoe-in for the lead, but maybe Skyler’s newly dyed pink hair will help her stand out enough to score a small speaking part.

Never in her wildest dreams does Skyler imagine she’ll land the lead role or that she’ll have her shoes knocked off her feet by the kiss her audition partner, Grey Blackwood, plants on her—a kiss that feels very real and not at all “acted. ”

After throwing a party that causes thousands of dollars of damage to his older brother’s home, reckless musician Grey Blackwood gets roped into working off his debt on the set of his CEO brother’s newest project. Grey spends his days fetching coffee and doing odd jobs around the studio, but he lives for nights when he performs with his band. He knows if he can stay focused, success as a singer is just around the corner. But that’s tough with a distracting pink-haired girl occupying his every waking thought.

Skyler and Grey have every reason to resist each other. But, like a song neither of them can get out of their minds, they have no choice but to go where the music takes them.

Title: Everything, Everything
Author: Nicola Yoon
Publisher: Delacorte Books for Young Readers, 307 Pages (September 1st, 2015)
Add to: Goodreads
Order here: Amazon, Barnes and Noble, The Book Depository, Amazon UK

Synopsis: This innovative, heartfelt debut novel tells the story of a girl who’s literally allergic to the outside world. When a new family moves in next door, she begins a complicated romance that challenges everything she’s ever known. The narrative unfolds via vignettes, diary entries, texts, charts, lists, illustrations, and more.

My disease is as rare as it is famous. Basically, I’m allergic to the world. I don’t leave my house, have not left my house in seventeen years. The only people I ever see are my mom and my nurse, Carla.

But then one day, a moving truck arrives next door. I look out my window, and I see him. He’s tall, lean and wearing all black—black T-shirt, black jeans, black sneakers, and a black knit cap that covers his hair completely. He catches me looking and stares at me. I stare right back. His name is Olly.

Maybe we can’t predict the future, but we can predict some things. For example, I am certainly going to fall in love with Olly. It’s almost certainly going to be a disaster.

About the Author:

James was born and raised in Georgia but now lives in the Rocky Mountains with his family. He has four kids, which some might think is too many but he thinks is just right. Once upon a time, James studied accounting and worked in the field of finance, but has been writing full time for several years. (He doesn’t miss numbers. At all.)

In his free time, James loves to read, watch movies and (good) TV shows, snow ski, and read. (Reading was mentioned twice on purpose.) Most of all, he’s thankful that he gets to make a living writing stories and considers himself pretty much the luckiest guy on the planet.

Book Wars a weekly feature hosted between two book review blogs – A Life Bound By Books & Much Loved Books!

It’s a fact that book lovers know all about the covers of the books they covet. Often when a title is released here in the UK, it’s sometimes vastly different across the pond in the US.  So, Lisa from A Life Bound By Books and I have come together to create Book Wars to talk about the difference in covers when it comes to the US vs. UK versions.

We hope from time to time authors will chime in with their thoughts as well. We welcome everyone to comment and share their thoughts too! The more the merrier!

Before we get to this weeks Book Wars, we have a winner to announce. The Book Wars winner for Linger by Maggie Stiefvater is... we have another DRAW this week!!! Thank you to everyone who voted for both books, and for picking a winner.

Also, there's a poll at the bottom of the post that we'd love to hear your input for the two covers! Tell us which one YOU love the most.

Faced with her brother's mysterious disappearance after an abrupt move to Paris, she is determined to discover what has happened to him. Soon she and her sister Gabriella are drawn into a Parisian underworld more terrifying than they could ever have imagined, but watching over them are two impossible (and impossibly handsome) young men. Luc is a 'Dispossessed', an ancient gargoyle whose sworn duty it is to protect the humans who inhabit his abbey. Nolan has secrets of his own too. He is a member of the Alliance - a shadowy group dedicated to keeping Paris safe from the demonic forces that threaten to destroy it.

Secrets, danger and hidden powers stalk the girls in this beautifully imagined paranormal romance that will keep readers gripped from beginning to end - and one thing is for sure - you'll never look at a gargoyle in the same way again...

About Page:

I'm the author of the YA Gothic thriller THE BEAUTIFUL & THE CURSED, along with its sequel THE LOVELY & THE LOST. I've been intrigued by les grotesques ever since I came across an old, black-and-white photograph of a Notre Dame gargoyle keeping watch over the city of Paris. I wanted to tell that gargoyle's story. Soon, the idea for The Beautiful & the Cursed was born.

I live in New England with my husband and our three daughters, an English Pointer puppy, an arrogant cat, two cuddly bearded dragons, a bunch of chickens, and during the summer and fall, our neighbor's two sweet horses.

Let the Wars Begin: Its now time to make our decision, let's see what we think about the covers and pick our favorite cover.

Lisa Oh gosh... this is so rough! Why do we keep choosing books where I love something about BOTH covers!!

Okay, so I LOVE the colors used in the US cover. Not a huge fan of the swooning woman on the cover because to me I'm not sure how that fits with the story. However the Eiffel Tower in the background... perfect!

The UK cover. I like the gargoyle and the model used to portray the female protagonist. I like the rain and how dark the cover is.... Yet there something about it that kind of puts me off. Yet.. I think this week’s vote for me goes to the UK cover. If I could blend these two covers together I think it'd be pretty amazing and over the top perfect!

I LOVED this book and need to try to read the second one soon. It's really amazing and if you'd like to check out my review >>>Click here<<< This week the UK cover gets my vote! Which one will YOU be voting for?
Michelle This is an easy choice for me. While I do like the USA cover, I think it's very pretty, my favourite has to be the UK version. The UK version is more creepier and mysterious. I love how we have the protagonist, a gargoyle, and town in the far distance. The effect of the rain is also a nice touch. I really need to pick up my copy and get this one read.

Synopsis: Rebecca Stead, Newbery Medal-winning author of When You Reach Me said this book is "brimming with surprises and grand adventure. Brave, smart, and full of heart, Madeline and Ruby are a gust of fresh air."

Mad's dad is the Bird Guy. He'll go anywhere to study birds. So when he's offered a bird-tracking job in Central America, his bags are packed and he's jungle bound.

But going bird tracking in the jungle and disappearing completely are very different things, and when the Very Strange and Incredibly Creepy Letter arrives, Mad can't shake the terrible feeling that her father is in trouble.

Roo, Mad's younger sister, is convinced that the letter is a coded message. And their mom is worried, because the letter doesn't sound like Dad at all. But Mad is sure it's a sign of something sinister.

The only way to get to the bottom of it is to go to Lava Bird Volcano and find their dad themselves. Though they never could have imagined what they're about to discover.

Let the Wars Begin: Its now time to make our decision, let's see what we think about the covers and pick our favorite cover.

Helen What’s really great about the US and UK covers/titles being so different is that people often assume I wrote two books.

I could never pick a favorite between the two covers—they’re so different it’s hard to compare. The US cover is representational and dramatic, emphasizing the physical element of the girls’ adventure as they stride forth into the mysterious landscape. The UK cover is more playful and subtle, emphasizing the secret code element of their adventure—the cover itself looks like a puzzle that needs to be solved.

I love the glowing baubles and floating sunbeams on the US cover. I love the overlay of the realistic animals and leaves on the UK cover.

As far as the titles go: there’s one version of myself as a young reader that would have been enticed by Upside Down in the Jungle, and another version that would have preferred Here Where the Sunbeams Are Green. Personally, I wanted to call the book The Weirdness, but both publishers disagreed with that idea …
Lisa I haven't heard of this book, but after checking out both covers they are both pretty cute! I love how adventurous and mysterious the US cover looks.

The UK cover has a more of a cute feel. It makes me feel like it's a journal or a book cover someone's doodled on and I love it too!!!

Wow, this is the hardest week/vote for me yet, I'm so torn!

Okay... I think my vote for this week goes to the US cover. It gives me a little bit more than the UK cover does. I like that we get a peek at the sisters on their adventure. US cover for me this week! Now, what's YOUR vote?
Michelle This is a tough one for me this week as I am not sure which cover I actually like the best.

The UK version seems like its aimed more at a younger age than what I usually read, but I do like how bright, colourful and eye catching it is.

The USA version portrays the feeling that this book would be an epic adventure waiting for you to open the pages and begin reading, but I'm not sure how eye catching it would be on a shelf.

My vote today will do down as shelfability in a shop, and I think the UK version is more likely to draw my attention than the USA one will.

VOTE for YOUR favorite cover of Here Where the Sunbeams are Green/Upside Down in the Jungle NOW!

Title: The Beautiful and the Cursed (The Dispossessed #1)
Author: Page Morgan
Publisher: Delacorte Books for Young Readers, 352 Pages (May 14th, 2013)
From: the Publisher via Amazon Vine
Format: ARC
Add to: Goodreads

Synopsis: After a bizarre accident, Ingrid Waverly is forced to leave London with her mother and younger sister, Gabby, trading a world full of fancy dresses and society events for the unfamiliar city of Paris.

In Paris there are no grand balls or glittering parties, and, disturbingly, the house Ingrid’s twin brother, Grayson, found for them isn’t a house at all. It’s an abandoned abbey, its roof lined with stone gargoyles that could almost be mistaken for living, breathing creatures.

And Grayson has gone missing.

No one seems to know of his whereabouts but Luc, a devastatingly handsome servant at their new home.

Ingrid is sure her twin isn’t dead—she can feel it deep in her soul—but she knows he’s in grave danger. It will be up to her and Gabby to navigate the twisted path to Grayson, a path that will lead Ingrid on a discovery of dark secrets and otherworldly truths. And she’ll learn that once they are uncovered, they can never again be buried.

Review: 4.5 Stars - The Beautiful and the Cursed is the first in The Dispossessed series from debut author Page Morgan. Set in Paris, Morgan’s vivid imagination takes readers on a breathless story down a dark fork in the road. I found its dark beauty captivating.

When the Waverly’s move from high society London to Paris Ingrid is happy to be out from under events that make her an outcast. She’s eager to see her twin brother Grayson who was sent ahead to find the perfect place for them to live and her mother to work on opening a gallery she’s so far only dreamed about. When they arrive at the location, an abandoned abbey. It leaves Ingrid and her sister Gabby wondering why of all places their brother chose this as their new home. Quickly all that is set aside when they learn that Grayson has been missing and there are no leads in finding him.

Ingrid and Gabby have a rough few days. Things happen to each of them that make them see the city and the people around them in a new light. There are girls missing, people murdered and there’s no end in sight. Ingrid is a bit older than Gabby and has more book smarts, while Gabby is stubborn and wants others to see her as older than she really is.

And then there’s Luc, the servant who catches Ingrid’s eye and the mysterious Vander and Nolan who in turn find themselves helping the sisters in understanding the truth of what’s really out there in the world. I think I should mention that while I had a soft spot for Luc, I think I was asked which boy I liked the most out of the three I’d have to say Nolan. He was snarky to Gabby’s feisty. I smiled a bit bigger when he was on the page. And then Vander kind of gave me the creeps. Not sure, but he just wasn't my cup of tea.

The story is dark and gothic and Morgan writes in a way that makes you feel and see the characters and their surroundings. Set in the late 1800s, in a time so long past I often felt lost in the pages and it’s all due to Morgan’s story telling. If there’s one book that’s easy to get lost in, it’s this one.

The main twist of the story, which not to worry I’m not giving anything away is about Luc and his fellow Dispossessed. They died and returned to live out their days as servants of anyone who lives on their territory which for him happens to be the rectory that Ingrid and her family now reside in. Luc takes his job seriously and when Grayson, one of his charges goes missing he’s punished and intends to not let it ever happen again.

He’s drawn to Ingrid and Ingrid to him and when a turn of events unfolds he shares his secret with her. This part of the story was extremely unique and I was captivated. Talk about breath of fresh air! I've never read anything like this before and I’m sure I won’t find anything like it again… except for the sequel which I’m more than looking forward to.

All in all Morgan’s novel delivered such a beautifully captivating story that I hated it to end. There wasn't a time while reading that I didn't feel whisked away to another time and place. Her characters were interesting beyond words and her story so unique that readers everywhere should take notice of this thrillingly dark tale filled with danger and romance set in the streets of the city of love – Paris. If you haven’t heard of this one, take note and get a copy today, if you have a copy and have yet to start it, you might want to now. I for one will be watching Morgan and be thrilled to read what she writes now and on into the future. Happy reading.

Synopsis: The jaw-dropping sequel to breakout YA thriller Don't Turn Around, which Kirkus Reviews named a Best Book of the Year, calling it "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo for teens, a surefire hit"

Noa Torsen is on the run. Having outsmarted the sinister corporation Pike & Dolan, Noa and her friend Zeke now move stealthily across the country, protecting runaways before they become test subjects for P&D's horrific experiments. Noa knows all too well what that feels like: Whatever they did to her has left her exhausted and scared.

Then, in an explosive confrontation, Noa and her team are trapped in the one place they thought was safe. It will take everything Noa and Peter have to bring down the corporation before it gets them first. And with no one to trust and enemies hiding at every turn, they may be the only people alive who can.

This stunning second book in the critically acclaimed Don't Turn Around trilogy raises the stakes to their absolute limit and will leave readers begging for the exciting conclusion, Don't Let Go.

Another three this week that I am SO.EXCITED.ABOUT! I always love when I talk about such different books from one another in my weekly WoW's and this week isn't any different. High Fantasy, revenge and crazy, fast paced thriller... yep, I can't wait for them all! However, I should say that I have already read, Don't Look Now because I LOVED the first book and this being the second didn't let up with the thrilling twists and turns ONE.SINGLE.BIT. I can't wait to see how it all ends in the third book in the trilogy. What do you guys think of the three books I've picked for today's WoW?

Title: Anomaly
Author: Krista McGee
Publisher: Thomas Nelson Publishers, 336 Pages (July 2013)
Add to: Goodreads
Pre-order here: Amazon, Barnes and Noble, The Book Depository

Synopsis: Thalli has fifteen minutes and twenty-three seconds left to live. The toxic gas that will complete her annihilation is invading her bloodstream. But she is not afraid.

Thalli is different than others in The State. She feels things. She asks questions. And in the State, this is not tolerated. The Ten scientists who survived the nuclear war that destroyed the world above believe that emotion was at the core of what went wrong—and they have genetically removed it from the citizens they have since created. Thalli has kept her malformation secret from those who have monitored her for most of her life, but when she receives an ancient piece of music to record as her community’s assigned musician, she can no longer keep her emotions secreted away.

Seen as a threat to the harmony of her Pod, Thalli is taken to the Scientists for immediate annihilation. But before that can happen, Berk—her former Pod mate who is being groomed as a Scientist—steps in and persuades the Scientists to keep Thalli alive as a test subject.

The more time she spends in the Scientist’s Pod, the clearer it becomes that things are not as simple as she was programmed to believe. She hears stories of a Designer—stories that fill her mind with more questions: Who can she trust? What is this emotion called love? And what if she isn’t just an anomaly, but part of a greater design?

Title: Carniepunk (Hell on Earth)
Author: Rachel Caine, Jennifer Estep, Kevin Hearne, Seanan McGuire, Rob Thurman, Delilah S. Dawson, Kelly Gay, Mark Henry
Publisher: Gallery Books, 448 Pages (July 23rd, 2013)
Add to: Goodreads
Pre-order here: Amazon, Barnes and Noble, The Book Depository

Synopsis: A star-studded urban fantasy anthology featuring bestselling authors Rachel Caine, Rob Thurman, Seanan McGuire, Jennifer Estep, and Kevin Hearne, whose stories explore the creepy, mysterious, and, yes, sometimes magical world of traveling carnivals.

The traveling carnival is a leftover of a bygone era, a curiosity lurking on the outskirts of town. It is a place of contradictions—the bright lights mask the peeling paint; a carnie in greasy overalls slinks away from the direction of the Barker’s seductive call. It is a place of illusion—is that woman’s beard real? How can she live locked in that watery box?

And while many are tricked by sleight of hand, there are hints of something truly magical going on. One must remain alert and learn quickly the unwritten rules of this dark show. To beat the carnival, one had better have either a whole lot of luck or a whole lot of guns—or maybe some magic of one’s own.

Featuring stories grotesque and comical, outrageous and action-packed, Carniepunk is the first anthology to channel the energy and attitude of urban fantasy into the bizarre world of creaking machinery, twisted myths, and vivid new magic.

Three books this week. And three books that I can't WAIT to read!! All three look so amazing! The sooner I get my hands on them, the better. What do you think of this weeks picks? Let me know in the comments.

Title: Dirty Little Secret
Author: Jennifer Echols
Publisher: MTV Books, 288 Pages (July 16th, 2013)
Add to: Goodreads
Pre-order here: Amazon, Barnes and Noble, The Book Depository

Synopsis: From the author of the “real page-turner” (Seventeen) Such a Rush comes an unforgettable new drama that follows friends-turned-lovers as they navigate the passions, heartbreaks, and intrigue of country music fame.

Bailey wasn't always a wild child and the black sheep of her family. She used to play fiddle and tour the music circuit with her sister, Julie, who sang and played guitar. That ended when country music execs swooped in and signed Julie to a solo deal. Never mind that Julie and Bailey were a duet, or that Bailey was their songwriter. The music scouts wanted only Julie, and their parents were content to sit by and let her fulfill her dreams while Bailey’s were hushed away.

Bailey has tried to numb the pain and disappointment over what could have been. And as Julie’s debut album is set to hit the charts, her parents get fed up with Bailey’s antics and ship her off to granddad’s house in Nashville. Playing fiddle in washed-up tribute groups at the mall, Bailey meets Sam, a handsome and oh-so-persuasive guitarist with his own band. He knows Bailey’s fiddle playing is just the thing his band needs to break into the industry. But this life has broken Bailey’s heart once before. She isn't sure she’s ready to let Sam take her there again…

Title: ACID
Author: Emma Pass
Publisher: Corgi Children's Books/Random House Children's Publishing (UK) and out 2014 from Delacorte (US), 431 Pages (April 25th, 2013 in the UK)
Add to: Goodreads
Pre-order here: The Book Depository

Synopsis: 2113. In Jenna Strong’s world, ACID – the most brutal, controlling police force in history – rule supreme. No throwaway comment or muttered dissent goes unnoticed – or unpunished. And it was ACID agents who locked Jenna away for life, for a bloody crime she struggles to remember.

The only female inmate in a violent high-security prison, Jenna has learned to survive by any means necessary. And when a mysterious rebel group breaks her out, she must use her strength, speed and skill to stay one step ahead of ACID – and to uncover the truth about what really happened on that dark night two years ago.

Another three titles this week. And all three books are yet again vastly different from one another. I am excited for all three and thankfully I have Dirty Little Secret (squeeee!) to read soon. As for the last book ACID, I know it's not a 2013 release for the US, but since I'll be in the UK in May I hope to snag a copy or two... maybe for a giveaway? How's that sound? Great? Good!
