Synopsis: A promise to keep….

Honoring her mother’s last wish, Lane Channing vows to follow her dreams. She takes the ‘big risk’ and leaves her small Kansas town behind and heads to LA, the city of dreams. She’s got a stellar job lined up, an old jeep, and 20 bucks to last her to her first paycheck. Her hopes shatter when she arrives to find her job’s been given to someone else.  Now she’s broke and will soon be living on the streets if she doesn’t do something fast. Welcome to cutthroat – Lane is most certainly not in Kansas anymore.

On the cusp of success…

Dillon MacAvoy has one goal–to become a star–whatever it takes. Even if it means honing his bad-boy can’t-be-tamed-and-forever-single image. Besides the image isn’t far from the truth. Dillon cares only about his younger brother and his career. He’s on the brink of superstardom if he can just decide on the next right script. But for that, he needs a script reader he can trust.

In a strange twist of fate…

Lane Channing is Dillon’s last chance. If Lane lasts the summer without becoming MacAvoy’s latest conquest, she’s guaranteed a job in entertainment. No problem, as long as she can ignore the heat that pulses through her every time Dillon is in the room. After all, love and commitment with a sweet, hometown girl would only ruin the Dillon MacAvoy brand.

Review: 3.5 Stars - Hard Glamour is the first title in the Glamour series by author Maggie Marr. It’s always great when you find a new author to enjoy and this just so happens to be the case for this title.

Lane, the female lead protagonist in this title is doing something she’s never done and that’s taking a HUGE risk in following her dreams. With her moms recent passing she applies for an internship across the US from her Kansas home to work in Hollywood in the film industry. She wants nothing more than to work on movies behind the scenes and thinks this is her first step to making that come true after her college graduation.

Dillon, the male lead protagonist is an up and coming movie star. He’s about to break out HUGE to be the new “It” guy when it comes to large action movies. He’s driven to a fault because he wants nothing more than to take care of his younger brother, to make sure he’s able to attend the best colleges so he follows what his agent and publicist have told him he needs to do in order to create the perfect Hollywood persona. They believe if he follows along with the bad boy image they have created for him he’ll be the biggest male star on the planet.

Well, things happen and these two cross paths… and then cross paths again with the help of Dillon’s brother Choo. Speaking of him I loved Choo! Such a great character that was dealt a rough hand early in life but with Dillon things are looking much better for the younger brother.

And since we’re talking about secondary characters I loved Dillon’s dogs! The way that they are written into the story, Marr did a great job giving these fur characters their own personalities.

There are parts of the story that are great and parts that were confusing or kind of felt unfinished. I questioned a few times while reading what the heck was happening or had happened for the story or characters to end up where they did along the way. Something’s just seemed too easy or quick to change for one or more of the characters without much explanation, which is the main reason I felt I couldn’t give this title a higher star rating.

One thing that Marr does very well is write some pretty steamy scenes. With someone as inexperienced as Lane and someone who was out to sleep his way through as many woman as he could to help him become the biggest star there is there were quite some interesting times for these two.

All in all I liked the beginning of this series. Hollywood is always interesting for characters and stories within Contemporary Romance and with characters, main and secondary that are interesting and so different from one another I’m looking forward to reading other titles set within the glamorous world that Marr has created. I recommend this title to anyone who loves a great Contemporary title about an up and coming rising Hollywood star and a girl just trying to make her way in the industry. Happy reading!
