Hey, friends! Today I have a special treat for you. I convinced my two main characters, Grayson and Cori, to participate in a little This or That session! At first, Grayson wasn’t onboard but Cori gave him a sugary grin and pinched his side and like magic, he relented. The sucker. ;)

Summer or winter?

Cori: *purses her lips, thinking* I used to prefer summer. But so much has changed in the last year. I suppose now, I kind of like the cooler weather. *glances at Grayson* Especially since it’s better for Grayson.

Grayson: *showing the tiniest hint of nervousness, or possibly regret. I can’t be sure.* I prefer winter since zombies thrive in the cold, wet weather.

Socks or slippers?

Cori: Slippers. The fuzzy kind that look like lamb’s wool.

Grayson: Socks.

Music: rock or country?

Cori: Hmm, definitely rock. Country reminds me of… my dad used to listen to Tim McGraw.

Grayson: *scowls at me for making Cori sad* Rock.

Flip-flops or sneakers?

Cori: I can’t really do flip-flops with all the rain here in Asher. So, sneakers.

Grayson: *still scowling* Boots.

Comedy or romance?

Cori: *grins at Grayson* Romance.

Grayson: *laces his fingers with hers* *smirks* Neither. Thriller.

Mountains or beach?

Answering at the same time…

Cori: Beach.

Grayson: Mountains.

Cori: *frowns* You don’t like the beach?

Grayson: *shakes his head* Beaches are dangerous for zombies.

Cori: But there’s so much water. It would be good for you.

Grayson: Salt water. Salt water doesn’t hydrate us like fresh water.

Cori: *sighs* I still have so much to learn.

Grayson: *pulls her close*

Cat or dog?

Grayson: *head snaps up* What do you think I am? A monster?

Cori: Gray, she’s asking about pets not food.

Grayson: *relaxing* Oh. Uh, a dog then.

Cori: *nodding* A dog.

Okay, last one. (Grayson’s relief is palpable) Right or left?

Cori: *looks to her left, at Grayson* *smiles* Left.

Grayson: *looks to his right* *touches his forehead to hers* Definitely right.

Hey Molly! Welcome back to the blog for Crossroads! I have a couple questions for your characters, so how about we get started?

What are your plans for Halloween?

(Answering as Katy Ainsworth, heroine of the LEGACY series):  I plan to attend the big Samhain celebration with all the other witches in Whitfield, in which the spirits of the dead will walk among us and let us know that life is beautiful but short. Samhain is our New Year, and after these celebrations, I always want to live my life to the fullest. Oh, and I plan to make out with my boyfriend Peter like crazy. Yummy.

Can you tell me a bit about the last scary movie you watched? (Were you alone? What snacks you had? What movie you watched? Did it scare you, etc.)

KATY’S ANSWER: Uh, this is embarrassing, but I’m a total wimp. I can’t even watch commercials for scary movies—I have to stick my fingers in my ears and go la-la-la. I’d rather spend the evening at a party, dancing. If you saw me, you’d know that was scary enough!

What are your plans for Halloween?

(Jodi Marshall) Well, I can’t be around humans so I can’t exactly go to a Halloween party or go trick-or-treating (though I’m too old for that anyway).  But Mason, the owner of Serpentarius, the Ophi nightclub, usually throws a Halloween party each year. If Hades isn’t breathing down my neck, I’ll probably go there.

Can you tell me a bit about the last scary movie you watched? (Were you alone? What snacks you had? What movie you watched? Did it scare you, etc.)

(Jodi Marshall) The last scary movie I saw was a zombie flick that Chase picked out. Leticia, Randy, and of course Alex watched the movie too, so it was a group thing. We had popcorn and spent the movie laughing at how dumb zombies are depicted. They don’t bother to yell “Brains!” or hobble around with their arms out. They try to eat you. Plain and simple. I wasn’t scared at all, mostly because my life is one big horror movie these days.

Hi Elizabeth! Welcome to the blog and this years Crossroads Tour. It's exciting to have you and your characters here for a couple of questions, so let's get these questions started!

What are your plans for Halloween?

Aaron: Well, I hope I’m not around this Halloween. But if Libbi doesn’t take my job and I’m still here, I suppose I’ll hang out at the haunted house Carroll Falls puts together every year. There’s something about being near me that gives people the creepy-crawlies and watching them squirm is sort of fun… on Halloween, that is. I’m not a sadist, or anything.

Can you tell me a bit about the last scary movie you watched? (Were you alone? What snacks you had? What movie you watched? Did it scare you, etc.)

Libbi: I really don’t like scary movies. At all. I hate gore and the feeling of anticipation as the music builds. It’s just too much for my overactive imagination. Last year, my best friends, Kyle and Haley, forced me to watch The Shining. They said it was an awesome film and a classic. I wouldn’t know. I kept my eyes covered the whole time. The popcorn was good, though.

About the Author:

I am an author and a maternity nurse living in Southern Pennsylvania with my two teen children and our pets, Bam-bam the dog and Tinkerbell the cat. In addition to nursing and writing, I also read avidly. I'm an artist, a karaoke singer, a music lover, and a kick-ass Pictionary player. My favorite color is green. I'm a Cancer. I like cats and pizza, but not cats on pizza.

Shan’s figured it out…why I’m such a mess. Or rather he thinks he has. And to his credit, he has it half right. The part about Jasper abusing me anyway. I want to tell him everything. I really do. For whatever reason, he makes me feel like I can spill my guts. But there’s that part of me that holds back…because if I tell him, he’ll know how filthy I am. The kind of life I’ve had…where I come from. And Jasper’s only part of it. What will he do when he finds out I was homeless, and lived like those people you see on TV or in the movies? And then there’s all that other stuff I can’t stomach thinking about. Right now I feel like my entire body’s in a trash compactor. My brain’s been squished so much from all this thinking, I think it’s going to implode. And I can’t even let myself consider what he does to my body. After Jasper and my other situation, I never thought I’d want to get close to another guy…and now I’m panting after Shan. There’s like this radar thing going on. I swear to God, I could be blindfolded, but I would know the exact moment he entered the room. Maybe it’s a chemical reaction or something. Who the hell knows? Whatever it is, it can’t be ignored. He knows it too. I see it in the way he looks at me. What if I’m so messed up that I can’t be normal, and in a relationship with someone like him? I want to scream with all these thoughts pouring through my mind right now.

The best thing or maybe the right thing to do would be to leave. Move away and go somewhere else. Again. I have a good bit of money saved now. I could move but damn it all, I really love it here. For once I live some place where I’m comfortable and making friends. I’ve never had that before.  My parents didn’t allow it and then, Jasper…well no way would he let me have friends.

Jasper…oh God, the thought of him now freaks me out too. What if he finds me? If he ever does, without a doubt, he’ll kill me. The way I left him… I wonder how long it took for him to get someone to help him. Though it struck me as funny at the time, I probably should’ve just left instead of handcuffing him like that.  I step back and take a look at the mural I’m painting. I wish like hell I could climb right in the thing and stay there forever.

About the Author: 

One day, on her way home from work as a sales manager, A. M. Hargrove, realized her life was on fast forward and if she didn't do something soon, it would quickly be too late to write that work of fiction she had been dreaming of her whole life.  So, she rolled down the passenger window of her fabulous (not) company car and tossed out her leather briefcase.  Luckily, the pedestrian in the direct line of fire was a dodge ball pro and had über quick reflexes enabling him to avoid getting bashed in the head.  Feeling a tad guilty about the near miss, A. M. made a speedy turn down a deserted side street before tossing her crummy, outdated piece-of-you-know-what laptop out the window.  She breathed a liberating sigh of relief, picked up her cell phone, called her boss and quit her job.  Grinning, she made another call to her hubs and told him of her new adventure (after making sure his heart was beating properly again).

So began A. M. Hargrove's career as a YA/NA and Adult Romance writer. Character Guest Post - Scout Journal—An entry from the journal written during her stay at New Horizons

Why am I here? It’s hard being in rehab. More so because I know he means it—Dane doesn’t make idle threats and if I don’t take this serious and at least try, he’ll walk away. That terrifies me. Dane has been my stability, my touchstone since we were kids.

Atticus is a good brother. He takes care of me, makes sure I get a good apartment and a decent boyfriend, makes sure I come home or major holidays and my bank account stays in the black. But he’s been wrapped up in his own life for so long. It’s who he is—he pours everything into his work and his relationships and if family phone calls fall to the wayside, it’s just what happens. It was the same way growing up, when he got caught up in some history book. Dane and I were used to it—we learned to entertain each other while we waited for him.

Dane was attentive, almost annoyingly so. He was protective and interested in who I spent time with. He helped me with papers and homework. He even took me and Louisa shopping for homecoming in Baton Rouge, our freshman year. He was patient—he never made me feel like a bother or ‘Atti’s kid sister’.
I trust him. In all the years since the attack, Dane has never judged or demanded explanation. He’s only ever been there to put me back together when I land at his house. I won’t risk losing that. I won’t risk him turning away from me—I think that would kill me.

You asked why I’m here. That’s it. I’m here because I’m terrified of losing my best friend.
