Book Wars a weekly feature hosted between two book review blogs – A Life Bound By Books & Much Loved Books!

Today is a special edition of Book Wars, tomorrow Book Wars will turn 1 year old. We can't believe that a year has gone by so fast, and we want to take the moment to thank ALL of you for voting, for commenting, and being supporters of this feature, and our blogs. Often when a title is released here in the UK, it’s sometimes vastly different across the pond in the UK.  So, Michelle from Much Loved Books and I have come together to create Book Wars to talk about the difference in covers when it comes to the US vs. UK versions.

Let the Wars Begin: Its now time to make our decision, let's see what we think about the covers and pick our favorite cover.

Lisa I think we're choosing some hard covers recently and we don't seem to learn our lesson lol. How on earth (no pun intended) am I supposed to choose a favorite for these two? I mean they're both interesting and beautiful in their own unique ways. They are so different from one another that if I saw them sitting on shelves at a store I'd want to pick them both up for a better look. I think for this weeks pick it's going to the one that the more I look at it, the more I see so the US cover wins my vote this week. While I love the shattering flower and the effect that has, I can't get past how the US cover draws me in and makes it hard to look away with finding something new and exiting to it. So now that we've made our hard choice this week, it's up to YOU to help the battle in this cover war and choose below! 

Michelle I really don't know why I do this to myself, we pick two amazing covers, and then we have to make the tough decision to pick our favourite. The US edition was the one that I first saw and I love it. The bubbles, the kaleidoscope effect, everything about it draws my attention. The UK cover however reminds me of her Wings series (which I loved) I love the flower on the cover and how parts of it have an exploding type effect, the small pieces of leaves and petals scattering away. After some debate, I have to go with the US version for this week. While I love both of these covers, the US one has the triangle in the middle, which is symbolic to the story itself, it also has a more mysterious feel to it. First off, these books have some pretty covers. Don't you all agree? The first title... a murder mystery and a boy with the name of Finny Boone. Two pluses there. I love the a good sci-fi and this book sounds like it'll be pretty thrilling.

All I can say is YAY for another new Morganville book! Love this series! Sadly, I'm a book or two behind with these, but my excitement is still always over the top for the Morganville books :)

And then we have the Space Between. I think this is one of my fav covers. Love the cover, love the synopsis, can't wait to read!

Review: 4.5 Stars - Across the Universe by author Beth Revis was unlike anything I’ve ever read before. It’s a story set in the future, aboard a spaceship with intriguing characters looking for the truth in a world of lies and a mystery that could change the course of their future. Revis writing, setting, characters and plot ebbed and flowed to make this one of those books that sticks with you, leaving you looking for more.

Right from the beginning we are thrust into an extremely vivid world and its characters. Amy, our main female lead is given a choice and it’s a doozy! Stay with her aunt and uncle on earth, or be frozen in a cryo chamber along with her parents in order to take the long journey to what’ll become their new home. Revis has a knack for writing a scene where you feel like you’re right there with the character, so when Amy makes up her mind, to be frozen along side her parents, after watching them go through the traumatic experience you feel the true emotion of the decision.

Being awakened early was more than a jarring experience for Amy. She’s now part of the living community on Godspeed. A community that doesn’t like change or anything that’s different. They are strict and have many rules that are so far removed from all that Amy knows, it’s a wonder she was able to cope as well as she did.

Elder is one of a very small group of people who go out of their way to befriend Amy. He’s in training to become the next ruler of the people on the ship. Amy gets under his skin. She teaches him about the real world and how things should be, compared to how they are. When he starts to question more and more about what he’s been taught, they start to uncover a mystery that’s much bigger than they expected. There’s feelings flowing between the two that are only lightly touched on, but I can see this blossoming into more in the future books yet to come.

With someone out to kill the people who are frozen, it’s a race against time to try to save her parents and everyone else and find and stop the person before it’s too late.

All in all, I was shocked on more than one occasion; however it perfectly fit in this dystopian story set in space. There’s a lot going on throughout the book, its mystery on top of mystery, built on a bed of lies. With all the twists and turns, it’s a thrilling, fast paced read that had me flipping the pages well into the wee hours of the night. I loved the characters and the setting. Revis knows her way around words, using them as brush strokes and the page as her canvas. I can’t wait for more from her in the future, I’m a HUGE fan! What’s up next for the author? How about the sequel – A Million Suns out 2012! I will be waiting and excited to read the continuing Sci-Fi story.

Review: 3 Stars - Kirsten Miller’s The Eternal Ones is a story that may have started in the past but it continues in the present. Cloaked in mysteries that run from one life on into the next as our main characters are reincarnated throughout time, Miller’s tale of past lives was a nice change of pace and a welcomed edition to the Young Adult Genre.

Haven, born and raised in a small religious town has visions of people and places she doesn’t know or has never been. These only make her more then an outcast. It was interesting following her as she learns more about herself, her family and these visions. With her best friend Beau by her side she slowly pieces things together and comes to realize just what her visions mean to her in the past and now in the present.

Iain, the rich, dark bad boy of the story is a celebrity of sorts and when Haven catches a glimpse of him on TV one night, she’s more then drawn to him and has no idea why. Iain was extremely mysterious and I often wondered if his intentions were honorable, I mean for me he was just down right creepy at times.

The interaction between Haven and Iain was sometimes predictable and at other times I found myself questioning why either did the things that they did. I enjoyed this for the mere fact that it was a refreshing change of pace to read something about reincarnation.

Their romance through the ages was somewhat timeless yet had its challenges as well - because lets face it, the love might still be there from the many many years that their lives span across, but people change as the times change and can their love survive this life?

And then Beau, he was one of those characters that you’d love if he could walk right off the pages and into your life. He was a great friend to Haven when she had really no one else. He listened and gave some pretty sound advice. I did find myself wishing there was more of him and his back story throughout.

All in all, Miller’s imaginative and descriptive storytelling was entertaining on many levels. Reincarnation is an interesting subject as is and Miller took the idea and was able to write a story many will enjoy. If there was a sequel, I’d read it.
