"Waiting On" Wednesday is an event hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine. The purpose of this weekly event is to spotlight a soon-to-be-released book that you are very much anticipating. "Waiting On" Wednesday will also give bloggers an opportunity to share ideas for our TBR lists.

Title: Symptoms of Being Human
Author: Jeff Garvin
Publisher: Balzer + Bray, 352 Pages (February 2nd, 2016)
Add to: Goodreads
Order here: Amazon, Barnes and Noble, The Book Depository, Amazon UK

Synopsis: The first thing you’re going to want to know about me is: Am I a boy, or am I a girl?

Riley Cavanaugh is many things: Punk rock. Snarky. Rebellious. And gender fluid. Some days Riley identifies as a boy, and others as a girl. The thing is . . . Riley isn’t exactly out yet. And between starting a new school and having a congressman father running for reelection in uber-conservative Orange County, the pressure—media and otherwise—is building up in Riley’s so-called “normal” life.

On the advice of a therapist, Riley starts an anonymous blog to vent those pent-up feelings and tell the truth of what it’s REALLY like to be a gender-fluid teenager. But just as Riley’s starting to settle in at school—even developing feelings for a mysterious outcast—the blog goes viral, and an unnamed commenter discovers Riley’s real identity, threatening exposure. Riley must make a choice: walk away from what the blog has created—a lifeline, new friends, a cause to believe in—or stand up, come out, and risk everything.

Title: Romancing the Nerd
Author: Leah Rae Miller
Publisher: Entangled: Teen, 352 Pages (February 2nd, 2016)
Add to: Goodreads
Order here: Amazon, Barnes and Noble, The Book Depository, Amazon UK

Synopsis: Dan Garrett has become exactly what he hates—popular. Until recently, he was just another live-action role-playing (LARP) geek on the lowest run of the social ladder. Cue a massive growth spurt and an uncanny skill at taking three-point shots in basketball and voila…Mr. Popular. It’s definitely weird.

And the biggest drawback? Going from high school zero to basketball hero cost Dan the secret girl-of-his-dorky dreams.

A tuba-playing nerd with an eclectic fashion sense, Zelda Potts’s “Coolness” stat is about minus forty-two. Dan turning his back on her and the rest of nerd-dom was brutal enough, but when he humiliates her at school, Zelda decides it’s time for a little revenge—dork style. Nevermind that she used to have a crush on him. Nevermind that her plan could backfire big time.

It’s time to roll the dice…and hope like freakin’ hell she doesn’t lose her heart in the process.

Title: Steel & Bones (Steel & Bones #1)
Author: Jessica Sorensen
Publisher: (February 2016)
Add to: Goodreads
Order here: Amazon, Barnes and Noble, The Book Depository, Amazon UK

NOTE: This is a "Adult/New Adult" novel. Due to mature content this title is recommended for ages 18+

Synopsis: Everlasting beauty comes with a price…

Eighteen-year-old Alexa Belarose lives in a world overpowered by immortality and beauty. Humans are hunted by The Grim, and their body parts are sold to The Soulless to preserve immortality and perfection.

Alexa has survived for years by living in solitude, but during a search for food, The Grim capture her, then mysteriously let her go.

The Greysteles find Alexa on the verge of death and take her to the city of steel and bones to be healed. Half human, half machine, the Greysteles are considered unwanted by The Soulless and the city is part of the safe grounds.
While living in the city, Alexa discovers life isn’t just about being hunted. She becomes drawn to two friends; Everett who’s moody and mysterious, yet in rare moments charming, and Ollie who’s witty and down to earth, yet seems to be hiding something from Alexa.

But when The Grim unexpectedly enter the city, Alexa learns The Soulless have put a bounty on her and a choice must be made. Her freedom. Or the lives of the people she loves.

Title: Paper or Plastic
Author: Vivi Barnes
Publisher: Entangled Teen
From: the Publisher
Format: eARC
Add to: Goodreads
Order a copy: Amazon, Barnes and Noble, The Book Depository, Amazon UK, Kobo

Synopsis: Welcome to SmartMart, where crime pays minimum wage...

Busted. Alexis Dubois just got caught shoplifting a cheap tube of lipstick at the local SmartMart. She doesn’t know what’s worse—disappointing her overbearing beauty-pageant-obsessed mother for the zillionth time…or her punishment. Because Lex is forced to spend her summer working at the store, where the only thing stranger than the staff is the customers.

Now Lex is stuck in the bizarro world of big-box retail. Coupon cutters, jerk customers, and learning exactly what a “Code B” really is (ew). And for added awkwardness, her new supervisor is the totally cute—and completely below her social sphere—Noah Grayson. Trying to balance her out-of-control mother, her starting spot on the school softball team, and her secret crush on the school geek makes for one crazy summer. But ultimately, could the worst store in the world be the best thing that ever happened to her?

Review: 4 Stars - Paper or Plastic is a Young Adult title from author Vivi Barnes. It’s a story that’ll pull at your heart one half of the book and the other you’ll find yourself smiling and sometimes even laughing out loud.

When high school student Alexis shoplifts, she finds herself in a situation. One that puts her right in the middle of what just might be one of the worst out comes she could even think of. She knows she got off easy, but doesn’t know how she’s going to deal with working at SmartMart over the summer to pay for her crime.

From the beginning of the book right through the end we watch as Alexis struggles at home, at her new position at SmartMart and with her friends. She starts to see things differently which is one of the things I loved about this book – you really, truly see the changes from who she is at the beginning of the book right through to the end. She’s a pretty spot on female teen character and I felt for her from beginning to end.

With SmartMart comes social outcast Noah – who actually wronged Alexis’ best friend years ago so she knows even talking with him just might put a wrench in her relationship with her friends. However how is she supposed to stay away when she’s starting to think he’s pretty cute?

The story itself is pretty great. I liked the issues that BOTH of these main characters’ face and how they work through them… or not and the consequences that they must navigate during this time in their lives. And these characters were fun to get to know and their story is so much bigger than just a “teen romance” that I didn’t expect. I had no idea the much larger issues that Barnes had her characters face and as mentioned above, half the time I the story was so light hearted and the other half was series that the author was able to give readers a pretty wonderful balance between the two.

There was a few things that I felt weren’t addressed. A few things I felt that could have been explained better and I almost feel as if this title was left a bit open ended. Would I like to find out what happens next for this High School students? Yes, I wouldn’t say no to a sequel… just no idea if that’s even in the works.

In the end I loved this book. It had everything that I’d look for in a great YA story. I highly recommend this book to readers who look for contemporary titles with strong characters and great writing. Enjoy!

Starting over sucks.

When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I’d pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring…. until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.

And then he opened his mouth.

Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something…unexpected happens.

The hot alien living next door marks me.

You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon’s touch has me lit up like

the Vegas Strip. The only way I’m getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades. If I don’t kill him first, that is.

ABOUT LUX: Consequences: Now available together for the first time, don't miss Opal and Origin, the third and fourth books in Jennifer L. Armentrout's bestselling Lux series. Also includes bonus content exclusive to the print edition! "A thrilling ride from start to finish," says RT Book Reviews.

No one is like Daemon Black.

When he set out to prove his feelings for me, he wasn’t fooling around. Doubting him isn’t something I’ll do again, and now that we’ve made it through the rough patches, well... There’s a lot of spontaneous combustion going on.

But even he can’t protect his family from the danger of trying to free those they love.

After everything, I’m no longer the same Katy. I’m different... And I’m not sure what that will mean in the end. When each step we take in discovering the truth puts us in the path of the secret organization responsible for torturing and testing hybrids, the more I realize there is no end to what I’m capable. The death of someone close still lingers, help comes from the most unlikely source, and friends will become the deadliest of enemies, but we won’t turn back. Even if the outcome will shatter our worlds forever.

Together we’re stronger...and they know it.

Title: The Warrior (Dante Walker #3)

Format: eARC

Check out my reviews for: The Collector | The Liberator
Synopsis: War between heaven and hell is coming, but Dante Walker makes it look damn good.

Dante’s girlfriend, Charlie, is fated to save the world. And Aspen, the girl who feels like a sister, is an ordained soldier. In order to help both fulfill their destiny and win the war, Dante must complete liberator training at the Hive, rescue Aspen from hell, and uncover a message hidden on an ancient scroll.

Dante is built for battle, but even he can’t handle the nightmares where spiders crawl from Aspen’s eyes, or the look on Charlie’s face that foretells of devastation. To make matters worse, the enemy seizes every opportunity to break inside the Hive and cripple the liberators. But the day of reckoning is fast approaching, and to stand victorious, Dante will have to embrace something inside himself he never has before—faith.

Review: 5 Stars - The Warrior is the final title in the Dante Walker trilogy by author Victoria Scott. What started out as a fantastic first title The Collector continued right through to the last with this epic, exciting, fun and often emotionally driven series with characters that will leave a mark. (Pun intended)

It's always sad coming to the end of a trilogy or series that you love everything about and there was no way to avoid saying goodbye to Victoria's amazing characters than to dive right in and savor each and every moment with Dante, Charlie and the crew. And savor I did!

The writing, plot and characters that readers have come to love in the previous two installments are there as the ultimate battle of good vs. evil prepare for war. The war that if they loose will change the world and it's inhabitants forever. They have to come together, train and learn to work as a unit for their victorious plan to work. And trust me when I say it's not at all easy.

I love Dante. I've loved him from the first sentence I read about him. He's cocky and has no problem backing up everything he says. He's gone through some serious changes, issues and questions and has more to face this time around than ever before. And Charlie... how can you not love everything about this female character? Dante and Charlie compliment each other and during each title my heart broke for them one minute and soared the next. It was nothing like this time around however.. there were tears, sobbing tears that were never ending. Sobbing tears in which I had to put the book down because I couldn't see to read. I was an emotional mess and I didn't know what to do with myself.

As I mentioned above the writing was spot on. Victoria knows how to pen some pretty epic characters with all sorts of flaws. Characters that leave their own unique mark and some you'll hate and more you'll love.

Without giving too much away in this amazing title, which is one of my favorites I've read this year and a favorite trilogy of all time... I'll just say that if you haven't read The Collector you have NO idea what you're missing. It's a must read in my opinion and has something for everyone.

Victoria, I bow down to you and your imagination and how you bring them to life. You have become a go-to, must-read author for me and I thank you for doing what you do. I highly recommend this trilogy to everyone! It's YA for readers teen and older and shouldn't be passed up. Happy Reading.

Add to: Goodreads
Order here: Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Amazon UK

Synopsis: For seventeen years Jed Franklin’s life was normal. Then his father was charged with the abuse and murder of four young boys and normal became a nightmare.

His mom’s practically a walking zombie, he’s lost most of his friends, and the press camps out on his lawn. The only things that keep him sane are his little sis; his best friend and dream girl, Summer; and the alcohol he stashes in his room. But after Jed wakes up from a total blackout to discover a local kid has gone missing—a kid he was last seen talking to—he’s forced to face his greatest fear: that he could somehow be responsible.

In a life that’s spiraled out of control, Jed must decide if he chooses his own destiny with Summer by his side or if the violent urges that plagued his father are truly in the blood…

About the Author:

I was born in Northampton, England, the eldest of 4 children (I have 3 younger brothers), and I took my eldest child responsibilities very seriously. When I said jump, they asked how high. They’re all a lot taller than me now, so I’ve had to change tactics for getting my own way.

School and I weren’t a match made in heaven. I was bored a lot of the time, and it seemed much more fun to dream up ways of disrupting lessons than to actually pay attention. Which could explain why I was always in trouble! But I redeemed myself later, when at twenty-one I went back to full-time study. Except, I got carried away and became a bit of a qualification tart. I even worked in education for a number of years – lecturing.

But all the time I was never content. I knew there was something missing, just didn’t know what. Until I discovered writing.

I wasn’t one of those people who wrote from being a small child. I did read though. I’ve always been an avid reader. And it took me a few years of thinking about writing before I actually started. But now, I wouldn’t do anything else, and I never get bored!
I moved to New Zealand (a beautiful country) from the UK twelve years ago, with my husband and two children. After working at a university for three years I left to work in our motel and devote more time to my writing. I wish I’d done it sooner! Two years ago we moved to the Sunshine Coast in Australia. Another perfect place to write.

In my spare time I love going to the movies, watching TV, walking on the beach, and playing with our gorgeous Labrador.

And, that’s about it. If I think of anything else to tell you I’ll add it later. And if you want to know anything just let me know!

Interview -

Can you tell us a bit about In the Blood and what you hope readers take away after reading?

In the Blood is about Jed Franklin, whose life for seventeen years was normal. Then his father was charged with the abuse and murder of four young boys and normal became a nightmare. Now, his mom’s practically a walking zombie, he’s lost most of his friends, and the press camps out on his lawn.

I hope readers might get a different perspective on how the families of murderers are affected by the situation.

In a perfect world for Jed, what would his dream Valentine’s date be with Summer?

They would drive into the hills and picnic in the moonlight under the stars. They would stay there for hours, sometimes talking about their futures, sometimes making out and sometimes sitting in silence enjoying each others company.

About the Author:

I’m a writer, a passionate reader, wife, mom, friend, and traveler. I’m native Northwest – third generation actually. But, for the first time in thirteen years I no longer live in Seattle. We are in the process of settling in Chile.

After high school, I joined a literature ship called the MV Logos II and lived there for two and a half years, went to over thirty countries, met wonderful friends from all over the world, and eventually got engaged to a man from Chile. We married and settled down in Bothell, Washington. I studied at Northwest University.

After my daughter, Emma, was born I began to feel a gentle nudge to write. I did … and discovered the bumpy, rough road that writer’s have truthfully titled The Writing Journey. It is indeed a journey and one fraught with rejection! I thought because I love to read the craft would come easily to me. Easy or not, I’ve discovered that all things worth doing take time and perseverance.

Currently, I speak when invited, and write fiction during the day. I’m married to Rodrigo Bustamante and we have two lovely children named Emma and Lucas.

I hope readers find hope in that story. In particular, that there isn't one right way to grieve and that our stories matter, telling our stories matter. Even the parts we regret.

Can you describe the main characters from this title in 3-5 words?

Ellie is resilient, kind, and dares to hope.

Will is impulsive, angry, and sensitive.
