Synopsis: I feel like I am wrapped in a cyclone. Everything is whirling around me, drawing the air out of my lungs and filling me with the best kind of turmoil. Every time his tongue slides against mine, a prickle in my gut tells me how right we are together. How much I need David. How much I need us.
I hope the cyclone never stops.
Emma Searfoss has spent a lifetime trying to escape her abusive stepfather. It's why she moved far away from home. It's why she's kept no ties with her remaining family. And it's why she's got a major rage problem. When her neighbor shows up to fix the kitchen in her new apartment, his enigmatic charm calms the fire in her. David is cool and collected, and he makes Emma feel safe for the first time ever. But David has his own chilling past—his six previous girlfriends have all disappeared without a trace. Emma's walking a dangerous line, but David's pull is intoxicating. And impossible to resist…
This is a new adult romance with mature content for readers 17 and up.
Review: 5 Stars - Push is the first book in the brand new – mess with your mind – series from debut author Claire Wallis. This title will dig its claws into you with the prologue and not let go until you are shredded, confused and begging for more!
I’m not even sure where to start with this review other than this book is a MUST READ! It doesn’t start slow; it drops you in the deep end of Emma and David’s story. Told in the present and the past Wallis does a fantastic job weaving the two together to give readers snippets and small ideas as to what’s actually going on in the story. She does a wonderful job confusing the reader, yet there was never a time while reading that I wasn’t so gripped by what I was reading that the confusion felt overwhelming. In fact it was the opposite.
Emma and David both have issues from their past and emotional scars that run deep. Some deeper than others. You think you know these two and yet the layers just continue to be peeled away until you think things couldn’t get any better…. Or worse.
The added pieces of their pasts that come to light during the flash backs as they navigate their new relationship give you more of an idea who they are, yet leaving you questioning everything you think you know. I’d say this one messes with your mind but that doesn’t even fit for how much I felt like I had a hang over after reading.
Without giving too much away I never knew if I liked these two or if they stressed me out so much that I often felt like I was out of breathe from what was happening from one page to the next. There’s just enough of a creep factor to David with how secretive side and how even the small things were left with an open ended question.
And then the ending… WOW. Talk about pushing (no pun intended) the reader fully over the edge into a tail spin! It took this reader days to recover from, If I’m honest I’m still trying to recover days after read.
The book itself reads quick and easily. There’s steam on top of steam where these two are concerned and which again adds another layer to the characters and their relationship. While it sometimes felt a bit over the top there was just way too much going on in this story to have something like that bother me when there was much, much more to this book than I could have ever imagined.
With writing is good, characters’ interesting and a plot that’ll leave you ready to throw your eReader across the room, I highly recommend this title to those who are looking for something different, unique and utterly captivating. A book that’ll stick with you for days, if not weeks after and a story that’ll have you questioning what the heck just happened. Fans of “New Adult” this isn’t one to pass by. This is for eighteen year olds and older due to graphic sex, language, drinking and other adult content.
I’m not even sure I did this book justice with this review. It took me awhile after reading to write it because I’m still in a daze! I can’t wait to read the next book because it left it without a doubt isn’t going to leave my mind anytime soon. I need more, looking forward to more and hope you’ll give it a chance and read this one too. It deserves to be notices, as does this author. Enjoy!
ETA: After writing this it's come to my attention that I haven't said much about the story itself. I did that intentionally because I don't want to give anything away at all. Anything other than the synopsis or my review is what you'll have to go by and trust me on for this one, you want to read it today!
