Review: Forever My Girl (Beaumont #1)
NOTE: This is an New Adult novel. Due to mature content this title is recommended for ages 17+
Synopsis: When Nick Ashford lost his friend, Mason, he didn’t realize he was going to lose his family as well, but that’s exactly what happened. Alone and in a foreign country, Nick is working on rebuilding his life one patient at a time, that is, until a striking volunteer makes her presence known.
Can Nick finish his year in Africa without risking his heart being broken again, or is he willing to start a new chapter in his life before his return to Beaumont?
Review: 4 Stars - The story in Forever My Girl, by author Heidi McLaughlin is one of my favorite titles I’ve recently read and I jumped at the chance to read more of the story, from the point of view of a character who had a rough break. In the novella, My Everything we get a peek into Nick’s head to see where he was at via his thoughts of what happened during Forever My Girl.
My Everything wasn’t what I was expecting because if I’m honest, I haven’t given Nick much thought. I was pleasantly surprised that I really liked his side of the story and hearing his feelings. This gave me a chance to see him more as a person instead of a side character up against an unmovable mountain when ghosts from the past returned, taking his life and those around him out of his hands and away from his control.
I felt for him. I could see he was broken and wanted him to finally find his happily ever after. And after the first chapter I was invested in Nick and his life after all that occurred in My Forever Girl.
McLaughlin’s wonderful writing and storytelling that I loved is felt throughout this novella. It’s made me even more excited and eager to read the next story in her Beaumont series even more so…. If that’s even possible!
With other characters from the first title, some of my favorite characters too, making an appearance in Nick’s story was a pleasant surprise, a welcomed surprise that might have made me grin like a loon! Okay, they totally did make me, but I’m not ashamed because I really love these characters and world that McLaughlin has created.
All in all, McLaughlin is an author to watch out for and an author not to miss. If you haven’t read Forever My Girl and My Everything, you are seriously missing out on something pretty amazing. I highly recommend these adult titles to anyone who loves a great contemporary. Trust me, you’ll thank me later. Enjoy!
