Wow, writing a book list is hard. Here's just a few that i'm looking forward to in 2016. I tend to discover books when I least expect it, so hopefully 2016 will bring some nice surprises as well as some great continuations to series I already enjoy.

Review: 3.5 stars - When I first heard about Ink and Bone I was so excited. Another Rachel Caine book to add to my collection- I love her writing.

I started reading Ink and Bone and initially couldn’t get into the book; I am normally engrossed in Caine’s books from start to finish. I put the struggle of reading down to work, and lack of sleep.

Jess Brightwell was brought up as a smuggler of rare books. Jess doesn’t really agree with the family business. He’s seen what some clients do with rare books and believes it’s wrong. But there’s no way out for him.  Jess would rather be sat reading one of those old books and inhaling their smell than running for his life, trying to keep them out of the hands of the library.

I love the concept of what books are in Ink and Bone. What if the Great Library of Alexandria hadn’t been destroyed? What would have become of the world?

All books are kept at the library under constant surveillance and can be read via Codex.
To coin a phrase “Knowledge is power” and to own books is illegal, and results in immediate arrest. I’d be one of the first arrested with the number I own!

To work for the Library is an honourable job, though against the family’s normal beliefs, Jess soon finds himself signed up to compete for a Scholar’s post at the Library. Only he’s competing against others for a limited number of posts.

Will Jess be prepared for the challenge ahead? His background, although it must stay secret from the Scholars and other postulants, may prove to be a help rather than a hindrance.

There is world building of epic proportions throughout this book. Caine always writes a good setting but this time I felt completely emerged in the history of Alexandria Library. The automata creeped me out, but I could feel their eyes watching me, as if I was there along side Jess.

There is a diverse set of characters- something that some books neglect and I did find myself becoming attached to Jess because of his love of books. I didn’t become attached to any of the other characters, but I’m hoping there will be more from them in the next book in the series.

All in all, a great but sometimes hard to grasp YA read. Keep going with it because it does get better.
Some parts of this book make me want to shout “All hail the paperback book” – but you’ll learn more about that when you give it a read.

I have the UK edition of Ink and Bone and the cover is simply beautiful in my opinion.
Also, the acknowledgements page I think this deserves a special mention.

As a bookseller myself; I think this is awesome, being able to give people access to books, and matching a particular book to the right customer can be a delight.
It also makes me feel like I’m a book smuggler after reading the book and that’s quite cool in itself!

If you like books in general give it a read. If you like J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series, or Cassandra Clare and Holly Black’s The Iron Trial then Ink and Bone may also be right up your street.

The colors are beautiful and it's one of those covers I can't wait to see in person. This one would without a doubt just beg me to pick it up.

Michelle This is such an easy choice for me this week. I saw the USA cover before the UK one, and I really hoped that we would get a different version. When I finally saw the UK cover I was beyond happy.

I love it. I love how it shows two images merged together to make one, I love how it relates to the book itself (which is really good). It’s also not something I’ve seen before, which makes it unique and memorable. It's a UK vote for me this week.

Lisa This week is a bit easier for me to choose. BUT first, I'll talk a bit about the covers. They both have amazing colors and a lot to offer in the looks department. The US cover feels more like a high fashion show runway model that's about to take the stage or is ready for a magazine spread. And then the UK cover has a bit warmer feel to it with colors and then the filigree adds something pretty special to it.

I'm looking forward to seeing the UK cover in person because it without a doubt wins for me this week. I can't stop looking at it.

Michelle Wow, both of these books have amazing covers. The colouring really makes you stop and take another look at these. I love how vibrant and bold they look. I do like the USA version and I think if I didn't own the UK one it would be a much harder choice. However my vote this week goes to UK, I own a copy of this book and the pictures do not do it justice, the book is even more spectacular in real life. Lisa This week Michelle has selected a book I haven't had a chance to read yet, BUT sounds pretty amazing. And when I'm looking at these covers there are things that draw me in for each.

I love how dark and somewhat simple the US cover is. And I love the filigree on the UK cover... And since I haven't read this title it's making this week a bit difficult when choosing.

So, I think I'm going to go with - the US cover. I've seen it in person and I like how it feels a bit more finished than the UK cover. If we were to have a cover that blended these two together would be pretty perfect. So, this week the US wins for me! Which one gets YOUR VOTE? Tell us below in the poll.

Michelle Look at both of these covers I am torn over which one I like the most. The UK one doesn't seem to portray the feel of the story, but I do like the prettiness of the cover. The USA one fits the story, but I don't really feel like I can pick anything about it that particularly stands out for me. I was eagerly anticipating the release of Daylighters the fifteenth book in the popular Morganville Vampires series. I pre-ordered it but when it arrived I couldn’t bring myself to read it. Claire, Shane, Michael and Eve have been “book friends” of mine for the past 5 years and I didn’t want their story to end.

So after nearly a month of deliberating and glancing at Daylighters on my shelf from the corner of my eye while reading other books I decided to make a start. The beginning of the end.

After returning from Massachusetts; Claire, Eve, Shane and Michael find Morganville in the clutches of the Daylight Foundation. A group who claim to be able to help the human population of Morganville finally have peace from the vampires. It soon becomes apparent that their methods are a bit extreme.

Claire, Eve and Shane realise they must do anything within their power to rescue Michael, Myrnin, Amelie and the rest of the vampire population before things end badly.

Sadly, because I knew it was going to end, I was expecting an ending like this although it didn’t have as much of an impact as I thought it would. This is not a necessarily a bad thing, as the book had many unexpected events throughout it.

Just a quick few words about the lead characters.

I think Claire is a very relatable character. She’s a normal girl who loves science and reading. Because she doesn’t fit in with the crowd at college she’s bullied. I’ve personally been in the same situation I think this is why I like Claire so much. She’s not your typical female lead character, but at the same time, she has the strength to pursue things that most people would either be too scared to try or that they would give up with when the going got tough.

Claire’s fellow Glass House resident and Morganville’s number one goth girl. Eve is a bit “out there” and rebellious; but at the same time she’s a caring friend and like an older sister to Claire. Teaching her in the ways of Morganville.

The kind of goofy yet hot; food and computer game loving, vampire hating Shane is just perfect for Claire. He had an unhappy upbringing, so when he met Claire, things finally starting going right for him apart from the usual Morganville chaos. Claire and Shane are quite possibly one of my favourite book couples; who despite having had their problems seem to be on the right track.

The final Glass House resident Michael; who is basically described as my perfect guy- a musician with blonde hair and piercing blue eyes. I love that all that time ago back in Glass Houses he let a bruised and scared Claire stay for a few nights despite his initial reluctance. The rest as they say is history. Despite the many troubles Michael has gone through he has always stood by Claire and been a good friend to her.

I won’t go on with my character praise any longer because I think any reader needs to meet and imagine the residents of Morganville themselves. One last mention does go to my favourite outrageously dressed mad scientist Myrnin. I will miss him and his vampire bunny slippers greatly.

When the world was taken by storm by the vampire craze Morganville was there for me to fall in love with. The characters, the setting, the adventures of the Glass House residents all provided the base for a brilliant series.

Daylighters is as with every Morganville Vampires book; well written and enjoyable to read.

I highly recommend Daylighters. Although I did shed tears and at times I shouted violently at the book (I get very involved with these books), so I advise everyone to have tissues at the ready just in case.

Suggested read if you like House of Night series by P.C. Cast, Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead and Evernight series by Claudia Gray.
