Check out my review: Everlasting (Night Watchmen #1)
Synopsis: The stunning sequel to the thrilling paranormal romance novel Everlasting!
One lie will change everything.
Faye Middleton has secured the Dagger of Retribution for the High Priesthood, but in doing so, she’s opened the door to more demands set by them. She now has to break the Holy Seal, and soon. Trapped in the alluring Ethryeal City, Faye is pushed to the breaking point trying to discover just what she is truly capable of, even if it means destroying herself in the process.
With the clock ticking down to the war between both Covens, and the truth about her parent’s mysterious disappearance within her reach, Faye is faced with tough choices that will forever change her. Will Faye be able to handle the demands from the Priesthood, and still be able to continue her search for her parents?
But more importantly, can she survive the truth she finds?
Review: 3.5 Stars - Evernight, the second title in author Candace Knoebel’s Night Watchman series picks up right where she left readers and her characters at the end of Everlasting.
Faye, Jaxon, Weldon and the others are up against more than just the Darkyn Coven, they are up against almost everyone and with everything on the line they have to work fast to puzzle out who they can trust, unlock the mystery that encompasses Faye’s powers and how to make it out of Ethryeal City alive. Also, Jaxon… *sigh* I kind of have a crush on this book boyfriend.
The one thing that I like about the book is that this one is pretty much nonstop action. However there’s so much going on that it’s often confusing and overwhelming. It’s because of these reasons that I had to give this title the star rating that I did.
I liked the growth you see the characters go through in this title and how when the chips were down they came together as a group to fight for what they believe in, yet getting there and everything that Knoebel included in this second installment left my head spinning. It took me a bit longer to read because I had to reread things to keep up, yet there were moments of clarity that I loved.
One thing that I felt was left out was the Gramm curse. It was mentioned but there wasn’t any true worry about it as there was at the end of the first book. There were a few other things that I felt should have been addressed by the characters, yet were left without a second question or glance. I won’t go into specifics here because I stay away from spoilers in reviews but I was left kind of confused.
Yet the key part of the series for me is the characters and their relationships with one another. When they come together they work so well as a unit. They each have issues and yet they put those aside for the greater good of so many. Yet there are moments in between where they are there for each other and load each other with the strength to keep fighting. And with Faye being pushed almost to her breaking point, they need each other more than ever before.
I just wished that the story flowed easier, that there wasn’t so much confusion on my part because it took me out of the story a few too many times and did affect my over all reading and enjoyment.
In the end it was the characters that I found enjoyment in. I liked having a chance to check in on them and to have a chance to see them grow further into their roles for the up and coming war they are about to face. And with the end of this book, there was a doozy of a bomb that was dropped so I’ll sit tight and hold on for the next installment, because I can’t wait to see what’s about to happen next.
This title is categorized as Young Adult, however due to language and very light sex scenes I’d consider this for older YA, possibly even “New Adult”. Otherwise this is pretty clean, very entertaining and extremely unique. I recommend reading the first book – Everlasting – first so you can follow along with the characters from the beginning without missing a thing. Enjoy!
