Synopsis: Take a risk.
Do something drastic.
Fall in love.
When Amberlyn Reilly loses her mother, her whole world comes crashing down. Having been caretaker to her for most of her teenage years, Amberlyn is inexperienced in many aspects of life. She hasn’t had time to live, have fun, or enjoy even the little things. It’s only when a letter from her mother, asking her to fulfill three things, sends her off to Ireland to live a life she never thought possible that she begins to heal.
Declan O’Callaghan was born and raised in Ireland and has his family’s legendary whiskey in his veins. He’s shy and not a fan of the pressure and spotlight that comes with his family name, or the title he was given at birth—the Whiskey Prince. Declan knows just what he wants and that is to take over the family dynasty, but when his father gives him an ultimatum, everything he’s worked for could come undone in the blink of an eye.
With six months to get married, the reclusive Declan spots Amberlyn across a lake and instantly feels the need to know her. Soon, the two find themselves traveling down a path neither expected. However, like any road, there are bumps and side streets to derail them. Can Declan help find the pieces that will make Amberlyn whole again? And will Amberlyn stay or run when she learns of Declan’s deadline of marriage?
Review: 5 Stars - Whiskey Prince by author Toni Aleo is her latest release and is a standalone title not associated with the Assassins series. This book gives readers another chance to see Toni stretch her wings with new characters and plot separate from her fantastic sports romance series.
I’m always a fan of a good love story and Whiskey Prince has a sweet one involving two characters – Declan, the shy Irishman heir to his family’s whiskey empire and Amberlyn who’s traveled to the Emerald Isle to live with family and help out at her families’ pub. She’s healing from the loss of her mother and trying to figure out what’s next in her life. Both characters are at a crossroads and trying to figure out what’s next when they meet.
One of the things I loved about this title is BOTH of these characters. There’s just something so endearing about having a lead male who’s shy, who tries to be a gentleman and who finally finds something or someone to take a risk on. Then Amberlyn, she is extremely inexperienced but takes her own risks to grow into the woman she’s supposed to be and to finally feel able to start her own life. Oh, and the fact that Declan made me swoon time and time again doesn’t hurt either.
These two have plenty of issues to overcome. From ultimatums, pushy men and family problems – Toni keeps the plot moving fast and with each page the characters became endeared to me further. The story taking place in Ireland was icing on the cake! I loved the setting and the added extra’s Toni included in the book that gave the characters and their home a richer feeling. It was easy to visualize the wonderful places Toni placed them, which is one thing I always look forward to when I read a book. Its part of what makes a book a great one when I can picture things so clearly and Toni achieved it from beginning to end.
Whiskey Prince has become one of my favorite titles. I loved it from start to finish, characters, setting, plot and so much more. It’s a book that I haven’t been able to forget and I don’t want to. It’s one that I’ll be able to read time and time again with excitement because I’ll have another chance to spend some time with these characters that I hated to say goodbye to.
Speaking of saying goodbye to these characters… that ending…. Shocking, I had a feeling something big was about to happen, just didn’t expect THAT! My heart pounded in my chest and broke, I wanted to scream!
I have no idea what’s going to happen next but I will be keeping my fingers crossed that we’ll get a chance to spend more time with these characters in the near future. I know I’d love to find out what happens next in their story and I’m sure other readers will want to know more as well.
I HIGHLY recommend this title to anyone and everyone who loves a great contemporary love story that’s classed as “New Adult” but is a bit on the cleaner side. There’s drinking, swearing, talk of sex and other issues that I suggest would be better for older readers but this is without a doubt a new favorite of mine and I hope will become a favorite to many others as well.
Go buy it, read it and come back and let me know how much you love it too! Happy Reading!
