"Just Picked" is a new Feature here at A Life Bound By Books. Each month I'll be sharing with you various picture books that I've come across that I think everyone with kids, or even adults will love to read or would even make a great coffee table book. *Please note that this is  feature here that I have created specifically for my blog. Should you wish to have a feature like this, please be sure to make it all your own.

Title: Birdy's Smile Book
Author: Laurie Keller
Illustrator: Laurie Keller
Publisher: Henry Holt and Co., 40 Pages (September 28th 2010)
Grade Range: K - 3 Age Range: 5 to 8
Order Online: Amazon, Borders, Barnes and Noble, The Book Depository
From: the Publisher, Thank You!

Synopsis: Birdy starts every day by smiling at herself in the mirror. She says you can smile while doing just about anything--brushing your teeth, taking out the garbage, or eating broccoli. Okay, maybe not while eating broccoli. Even people with bad teeth (like our first president, George Washington) should show their toothy grins because there’s no such thing as a bad smile. So heed Birdy’s advice and practice your smile—you’ll need it while reading this book!

Review: 4 Stars - Birdy’s Smile Book is not only cute, but its message is clear. It doesn’t take much to smile so why don’t we all try to do it more often? While reading through we see Birdy and her dog French Fry go through a journey of sorts – showing all the many reasons why you should smile. There’s not a true plot to this one, but it doesn’t need it. As Birdy walks us though how everyone’s smile is different and all the many reasons why it’s good to smile, you can’t help but smile yourself – which is exactly what the book has set out to do.

The Illustrations are vibrant and extremely entertaining - fitting right along with the message. Laurie has done a great job with both to make this picture book great for kids all around.

I would recommend this book to anyone with grade school kids and could see how smiling could become a great topic of discussion over a family dinner. Enjoy!
