Synopsis: Deadly Witchcraft. Ghostly Threats. Doomed Romance.

They say every town has its secrets, but that doesn’t even begin to describe Fallen Oaks. The townsfolk are a superstitious lot and the mystical disappearance of a local teen has everyone murmuring about a centuries old witch’s curse.

When sixteen-year-old Shiloh Trudell takes a summer job at Craven Manor, she discovers a ghost with an agenda. That’s where she meets the new town hottie, Trent Donovan, and immediately becomes enchanted by his charms.

Finally, Shiloh’s met someone who is supercute and totally into her, but Trent is immersed in the cunning deception that surrounds the mysterious Craven Manor. So much so that he may lose sight of what is truly important to him. And she can’t decide whether she wants to shake him or kiss him. Yet neither one of them can deny the immediate, passionate connection growing between them.

With cryptic messages from a pesky wraith, Shiloh will finally begin to understand the mysterious significance of the strange mark branded on her wrist and decide how much she’s willing to sacrifice to protect the other teenagers in town.

Unfortunately, for Shiloh, not all ghosts want help crossing over. Some want vengeance.

Sherry is sharing an exclusive excerpt from part one of the gripping Spellbound series: BEAUTIFULLY BROKEN. Enjoy!

Excerpt:

As we traveled through the house, filling our lungs with dust and mold, Trent and I found a way to entertain ourselves. In the second parlor, Trent launched a dusty tapestry pillow across the room at my face. It smacked me right in the nose.

This. Meant. War.

Gently placing Charm on the couch that Trent had just uncovered, I sank behind the antique sofa, grabbing the small cushions placed across the back. Ammunition was important.

“Surrender now! And I promise I won’t take you as a prisoner-of-war!” I called from my bunker.

Trent peaked around the doorjamb, grinning from ear-to-ear. “I’m pretty sure I’ve got this.”

A cushion flew through the air, sailing over my head. It landed with a resolute—poof!—against the wall behind me.

I gloated. “Ha! You missed.” Standing, I hurled a few small decorative pillows toward the doorway, but none of them struck home.

Trent chucked one more that glanced off the top of the couch, right in front of my face.

Ohmigosh! You almost hit me. Brat!” Just then, because I was so intent on hollering at him, another dust-laden pillow whacked me right on side of the head.

Furious, yet laughing, I threw pillows in rapid-fire succession at the doorway, using up the last of my ammunition. But he dodged all my efforts. Then I ducked back down, holding my sides and laughing my ass off. I couldn’t remember the last time I’d had this much fun.

Trent reappeared in the doorway, snickering. “Missed me! Missed me! Now ya gotta kiss me!” he taunted.

I peeked over the sofa and our eyes locked. “Oh, really?”

His face reddened. “Um. Yeah. Guess I should try to act my age, huh?”

Giggling, I extricated myself from behind the couch and petted Charm, who had made herself very small in the corner of the sofa. “Yup. At least act half your age, puhleeze!”

We both crossed the room and met in the middle. Trent absently tucked loose hair behind my left ear, caressing my cheek.

“That was…” He searched for the right word. “Fun.” A genuine grin spread across his face, lighting up the entire room. “We should finish up.”

Clasping his offered hand, we left the parlor, heading into the more unknown recesses of the mansion.

Title: Beautifully Broken (Spellbound, #1)
Author: Sherry Soule
Publisher: Moonlight Publishing, 328 Pages (June 30th 2011)
From: the Author, Thank You!

Synopsis: Thirteenth daughter. Heritage witch. Demon slayer.

They say every town has its secrets, but that doesn’t even begin to describe Whispering Pines. The townsfolk are a superstitious lot and the mystical disappearance of a local teen has everyone murmuring about a centuries old witch’s curse.

Sixteen-year-old Shiloh Ravenwolf is a heritage witch from the Broussard family, a family both destined and cursed. When she takes a summer job at Ravenhurst Manor, she discovers a ghost with an agenda. That’s where she meets the new town hottie, Trent Donovan, and immediately becomes spellbound by his charms. Yet she is determined to discover the connection between them before it’s too late.

Finally, Shiloh's met someone who is supercute and totally into her, but Trent may be the next victim on the supernatural hit list. And Shiloh is the only person with the power to save him. Complicated much?

It sucks to have a destiny, especially since Shiloh would rather spend her summer being a normal girl who worries about clothes and boys, not the supernatural. But she’s never been
normal and the stranger things become the more her own magical senses awaken.

With cryptic messages from a pesky wraith, she will begin to understand the mysterious significance of the strange mark branded on her wrist, and decide how much she's willing to sacrifice to protect the other teenagers in town.

Unfortunately, for Shiloh, not all ghosts want help crossing over. Some want vengeance.

Review: 4 Stars - Beautifully Broken, the first in the Spellbound series from author Sherry Soule is filled with mystery, romance, magic and more, all set in a small town, with an old gothic mansion as the backdrop.

Shiloh has a lot to deal with for being only sixteen years old. And things are about to get worse, yeah… seriously. She’s not got the best home life, with a mother running frigid to cold at best and a father who’s supportive, but tends to keep his mouth shut and not get in the middle; what’s a girl to do? She’s some what of an outcast but has a couple pretty good friends and one best friend. For me, she was even kind of awkward. With the shadows starting to close in around her, something evil wanting her dead and a new beautiful boy in town that’s showing interest, she’s bound to stumble along the way.

And then we have Trent, the new beautiful boy in town. Who happens to live in the old gothic mansion that the town somewhat fears. Everyone believes it’s haunted, except Trent. He’s a great character most of the time. I would have rated this title a bit higher if not for how hot and cold I felt he was. It was sometimes a struggle for me to understand who he was and why he did the things he did. Some of those questions were answered and some I just never understood. Does it make him a bad character? Nope, just a boy, a teen boy with some pretty huge issues of his own, so I often felt he needed to be given some slack where his attitude was concerned.

The relationship between Shiloh and Trent was kind of strange as well. The constant push and pull of the two made me question their relationship here and there. This has to do more with what I mentioned about above and Trent running hot and cold AND with all that the two were facing throughout the story. Overall, I found their interaction cute and totally teen and that sometimes their relationship gave the story and each of the characters a break from the crap they had going on around them.

When Trent and his dad move back in to town to renovate their run down home Ravenhurst; teens start going missing again and the town starts to panic thinking it’s because there’s something going on with the house. And as Shiloh takes a summer intern job working with the contractor who’s doing the renovation, you just know things are bound to get much, much worse before they get better. But, can one teen girl figure out the town’s curse and save anyone else from being hurt, taken or killed?

Those are questions you’ll find yourself asking while reading and not to worry, the answers will come fast and furious. Not all things are answered or addressed, but there were just enough that I didn’t feel like I was missing to much or that there were to many things left wide open until the rest of the series, and that’s always a HUGE plus if you ask me.

All in all, Soule has done a great job with this one and I am looking forward to the next installment to see what comes next for Shiloh and Trent and more so, what’s going to happen to both of their families. So, if you’re looking for a book with magic, romance, mystery, be definitely sure to pick this one up. Happy reading!

Haunted Houses and Wraiths
By: Young Adult author, Sherry Soule

You hear footsteps upstairs when you know no one is up there. Doors slam unaccountably. Lights flicker. Unexplained shadows. The feeling of being watched…

These may be indications that your house is haunted. Ghosts are considered to be the life force that remains after a person or an animal loses its physical existence. The ability to perceive this disembodied soul is considered by some to be a gift (or curse) of Sight or other sense. Like being a Ghost Whisperer.
I’ve always had a morbid fascination with haunted houses. I love all things supernatural, and I knew the fiction market was flooded with vampires, fairies, and werewolves, so I decided to make the heroine of my debut novel a sassy witch who works in a haunted house filled with lost souls.
The story ARC of my paranormal novel took a different twist once I decided to add a vengeful wraith to the plot.
The word WRAITH, marked by the Oxford English Dictionary as being of obscure origin, is first attested in 1513, with the meaning of ghost or specter (that is, an apparition of a living or once-living being, possibly as a portent of death). In 18th century Scotland, it was applied to water spirits, and in England, it became used in a metaphoric sense to refer to wraith-like things, and to portents in general. It is thought that by seeing a wraith it is an omen of another person's imminent death.
In my novel, BEAUTIFULLY BROKEN, Ravenhurst Manor is a Gothic mansion overflowing with lost souls. Vengeance is a powerful motive for a wraith to hang around after death.
The premise of the series involves an adolescent girl named Shiloh Ravenwolf who is chosen by an ancient prophecy to have magickal powers to defeat wraiths and other evils in the cursed town of Whispering Pines. During the series, Shiloh discovers that, not only does she possess supernatural powers, she comes from a long line of heritage witches. The first in the line, Anabelle Brossard, prophesized that one day the Thirteenth Daughter would be produced from her lineage. A force of good, she would be gifted with magick to battle the forces of evil.
The central theme throughout the series is Shiloh’s struggle to balance a normal teenage life with her supernatural responsibilities. The burden of keeping her destiny a secret from the outside world causes repeated tensions in her friendships, school, and romantic relationships. Not to mention when the wraith starts stalking her in dangerous ways…
