Synopsis: The truth shall set you free.

My name is Calla Price and I’m drowning.

My new world is a dark, dark ocean and I’m being pulled under by secrets.

Can I trust anyone? I don’t know anymore.

The lies are spirals. They twist and turn, binding me with their thorns and serpentine tongues. And just when I think I have it figured out, everything is pulled out from under me.

I’m entangled in the darkness.

But the truth will set me free.

It’s just ahead of me, so close I can touch it. But even though it shines and glimmers, it has glistening fangs and I know it will shred me.

Are you scared?

I am.
Excerpt:

Together, we float to the surface, still intertwined. We break through the top and I suck in a breath and Dare is staring into my eyes.

There’s tension here, but not the bad kind. It’s the kind that ignites you, the kind that intoxicates you, the kind that once you taste it, you’ll crave for the rest of your life.

I’ve forgotten that I was going to be careful, that I was going to reject him on every level.

All I can remember, all I can focus on, is how veryalive Dare DuBray is making me feel in this moment, how alive he always makes me feel.

For a girl who has been surrounded by death her entire life, this is a very big deal.

“I’m a little afraid of you,” I blurt honestly, and Dare still has his arms around me. Our treading water motions keep our legs rubbing together, the friction still there.

Hot,

Hot,

Hotter.

Dare smiles, but there is no humor in it.

“Good.”

“Why?”

My honesty makes me seem innocent, but I don’t know how to play games. I have no experience with the opposite sex at all.

“Because that makes you feel something.”

But he’s hesitant now and he looks away. There’s something he wants to say, it’s balanced on the tip of his tongue, but he swallows it.

“What is it?” I ask softly. “Just tell me.”

He wants to, I can tell. His secrets are killing him. He just wants to be normal, he’s just acting out a role.

I don’t know why I feel like I know this. It’s just there, suddenly resting on my heart.

“You don’t have to be someone you’re not,” I murmur quietly. His dark eyes snap up to mine and he pulls his hands away. There’s something in his eyes now, something guarded, and our easy afternoon has come to an end.

“What makes you think I am?” he snaps. “Pretending to be something I’m not, I mean.”

I’ve somehow annoyed him, and I don’t answer because I don’t know what to say.

“I’m not being someone I’m not, Calla,” he says coolly as he strides from the water. “I’m being who you need me to be.”

I’m utterly confused, and I’m dripping wet.

“We don’t have towels,” is all he says when I follow him. My clothing soaks up the water and it is a very cold ride back home.

Dare doesn’t say another word and I leave him in the garage.

I don’t see him at dinner, and I don’t see him the rest of the night.

But as I lay in bed around midnight, I see his car leave the garage.

I don’t see him come home, and I’m awake for half the night waiting.

I have no idea where he goes when he slips away.

Somehow, I think he wants it that way.

There’s a fork in the road and even though I see it, I can’t avoid it.

One road goes left, one goes right, and neither of them end well.

I feel it in my bones,

In my bones,

In my bones.

I sing a song of nonsense, and it sings back. The notes echo and twist in the air, and I swallow them whole.

“Come out,” I call behind me, because I know they’re there.

I can’t see them, but they’re always watching.

Eyes appear, blood red, and they blink once, twice, three times.

“I can see you,” I announce and there’s a growl and then I’m crushed beneath the dark, beneath the weight, beneath the oppression.

“You don’t scare me,” I lie.

There’s savagery here, there’s grace.

But above all, there’s oblivion and no matter what I do, I will be sucked into it.

I know it.

I feel it.

I’m crazy.

And it doesn’t matter.

I’m the rabbitrabbitrabbit and I’ll never be free.

Don't miss the first book in the Nocte Trilogy...

Synopsis: SAVE ME AND I'LL SAVE YOU...

My name is Calla Price. I’m eighteen years old, and I’m one half of a whole.

My other half-- my twin brother, my Finn-- is crazy.

I love him. More than life, more than anything. And even though I’m terrified he’ll suck me down with him, no one can save him but me.

I’m doing all I can to stay afloat in a sea of insanity, but I’m drowning more and more each day. So I reach out for a lifeline.

Dare DuBray.

He’s my savior and my anti-Christ. His arms are where I feel safe, where I’m afraid, where I belong, where I’m lost. He will heal me, break me, love me and hate me.

He has the power to destroy me.

Maybe that’s ok. Because I can’t seem to save Finn and love Dare without everyone getting hurt.

Why? Because of a secret.
A secret I’m so busy trying to figure out, that I never see it coming.

You won’t either.

Nocte Forward letter
EXCERPT:

Glancing up, I suck my breath in when I find dark eyes connected to mine, eyes so dark they’re almost black, and the energy in them is enough to freeze me in place.

A boy is attached to the dark gaze.

A man.

He’s probably no more than twenty or twenty-one, but everything about him screams man. There’s no boy in him. That part of him is very clearly gone. I see it in his eyes, in the way he holds himself, in the perceptive way he takes in his surroundings, then stares at me with singular focus, like we’re somehow connected by a tether. He’s got a million contradictions in his eyes….aloofness, warmth, mystery, charm, and something else I can’t define.

He’s muscular, tall, and wearing a tattered black sweatshirt that says Irony is lost on you in orange letters. His dark jeans are belted with black leather, and a silver band encircles his middle finger.

Dark hair tumbles into his face and a hand with long fingers impatiently brushes it back, all the while his eyes are still connected with mine. His jaw is strong and masculine, with the barest hint of stubble.

His gaze is still connected to mine, like a livewire, or a lightning bolt. I can feel the charge of it racing along my skin, like a million tiny fingers, flushing my cheeks. My lungs flutter and I swallow hard.

And then, he smiles at me.

At me.

Because I don’t know him and he doesn’t know better.

NOTE: This is a "New Adult" novel. Due to mature content this title is recommended for ages 17+

Synopsis: Ex-Army Ranger, Brand Killien, has always been good.

A good friend, a good soldier, a good everything. .

The problem is, good hasn’t gotten him anything but a crushed heart.

So after licking his wounds, he decides to move on. And moving on doesn’t include being good anymore.

Bad sounds so much better.

Jaded and detached, Brand is determined to never open himself up to anyone again. It’s not worth the pain. Instead, he becomes closed, hardened, aloof.

But then he’s called back home for a family emergency… a family that he is estranged from. A family that he put out of his mind a long time ago for very good reasons…reasons that involve secrets and pain. Reasons he tried hard to forget.

But home is where the heart is, and it just might be where Brand finds his again.

Why? Because home is where Nora Greene is. A fiery, red-headed spitfire, Nora is a thing from his past. A beautiful, feisty thing. When Brand left, she was away at boarding school.

But she’s back now.

And she wants Brand, scars and all.

Review: 4 Stars - Until We Fly is the fourth title in author Courtney Cole’s Beautifully Broken series which follows characters whose lives have intertwined with past characters from prior books in the series. We might have met leading man Brand in a past installment but readers have never seen him in all his glory.

Brand has been one of those characters for me that I couldn’t wait to learn more about. He’s been through a lot, sticks close to his friends and would do anything for those friends and anyone he loves. He’s an honorable guy, was a soldier and he’s got a heart of gold just waiting for the right girl to come alone to take care of it for him.

He thought he found it once and if you’ve read the previous books you know how that turned out for him. And now we get a chance to find out just who the feisty woman is who’ll win him over heart and soul.

Nora comes from wealth and she’s about to give Brand an offer he’ll find hard to refuse. She’s home for the summer trying to deal with issues that come with her family and the job she’s being somewhat forced to take. Her scars run deep and wow… I didn’t see half of what she had going on coming. It was shocking; it was heart wrenching and it made me want to scream.

The two are thrown together by an accident and it’s easy to see that the sparks are going to fly.

I have loved this series from the beginning. I have loved each and every one of the characters yet Brand has always been someone I just couldn’t wait to read more about. He’s been a mystery to me and I jumped up and down to finally have a chance to read his story. And the two of these characters together fit so well you’re just waiting for the other shoe to drop and when it does, WOW!!!

Cole has written some seriously amazing characters and their stories are highly entertaining. The Beautifully Broken series has been one I haven’t been able to get enough of and has left its mark on me as a reader. Cole writes memorable characters that’s for sure! Going back to the beginning she started us off with one of the biggest openings of a book ever and it was then that I was hooked.

After reading Until We Fly Brand has quickly become a book boyfriend in my heart! I can’t wait to see what Cole writes next as she’s a go to author for me. I highly recommend this title and ALL of Cole’s previous works for contemp lovers looking for some scarred bad boys with heart. These are classed as “New Adult” and for good reason so keep that in mind for anyone who’s looking for a lighter, less steamy read because there’s steam and plenty of it! WOW! Brand has without a doubt BrandED me, I hope he BrandS you too! Enjoy!

Title: If You Stay (Beautifully Broken #1)
Author: Courtney Cole
Publisher: Lakehouse Press, 220 Pages (February 5th, 2013)
Add to: Goodreads
Synopsis: 24-year old Pax Tate is an asshole.

Seriously.

He’s a tattooed, rock-hard bad-boy with a bad attitude to match.

But he’s got his reasons.

His mother died when Pax was seven, leaving a hole in his heart filled with guilt although he doesn't understand why. What he does know is that he and his dad are left alone and with more issues than they can count.

As Pax grew up, he tried to be the kid his father always wanted; the perfect golden boy, but it didn't work. His dad couldn't overcome his grief long enough to notice and Pax couldn't keep up the impossible perfect façade.

So he slipped far, far from it.

Now, he uses drugs and women to cope with the ugliness, the black void that he doesn't want to deal with. If he pretends that the emptiness isn't there, then it isn't, right?

Wrong.

And it’s never more apparent than when he meets Mila.

Sweet, beautiful Mila Hill is the fresh air to his hardened frown, the beauty to his ugly heart. He doesn't know how to not hurt her, but he quickly realizes that he’s got to figure it out because he needs her to breathe.

When memories of his mother’s death resurface from where he’s repressed them for so long, Mila is there to catch him when the guilt starts making sense. Mila is the one…the one who can save him from his broken troubled heart; from his issues, from the emptiness.

But only if he can stop being an asshole long enough to allow it.

He knows that. And he’s working on it.

But is that enough to make her stay?

Character Interview -

Mila, thanks for hanging out with us today and taking the time to answer a few questions.

Thank you so much for having me!

So, how does it feel to have everyone reading about your story?

It’s a bit unnerving.  It makes me feel a bit vulnerable, I guess.  Our story is so personal…it will be interesting to see what people think of it.

What’s one important thing you've learned throughout your journey?

That people really can change…if they want to.  They always say that people can’t truly change, but they can if the will to change is there.  They have to actually want to change and that is sort of rare.  But if the desire and will is there, it can be done.

Can you tell us about that first time you “met” Pax? I was scared while reading it, I can’t imagine being in your shoes.
Girl, I was terrified.  But it was like my body was moving on its own accord.  Before I could even think, I was in motion.  Thankfully.  If I’d had a second to think about it, I might have frozen up and not done what needed to be done.

Can you describe Pax from the beginning of the book in three words?

Damaged.  Reckless.  Vulnerable.

I know art is a huge part of who you are and your life, can you tell us what you’re working on right now?

I always have several projects going at a time.  And most of them involve Lake Michigan.  However, I do have a painting of Pax in progress.  I’ve been working on it for awhile, but we always get distracted when he poses for me.  He and I have a thing for paint….

How about a few quick fire questions so readers have a chance to get to know a few things about you that they might not know?

Cake or Pie?  Pie.
Painting or drawing? Painting.
Coffee or Hot Chocolate?  My sister makes a mean Italian hot chocolate.
Winter or Summer?  Winter.
Favorite time of day? Night.
Favorite Holiday?  Thanksgiving.
What did you have for breakfast today?  Leftover pizza and coffee.
Favorite movie?  The Notebook
Favorite book?  Anna Karenina
Favorite music?  All of it

Without giving away any spoilers, can you tell us what’s next for you? Any chance we might find out what happens after the end of If You Stay?

You will definitely find out a bit more.  Apparently, there’s going to be a companion novel to If You Stay, titled If You Leave. It will follow my sister Madison.  I think you’re going to like my sister’s story.  She’s pretty amazing.  And feisty.   You’ll see a bit more of Pax and me, too.

Mila, thanks again for visiting with us! It’s been great to getting to know you a bit better.

Thank you so much for having me!  It was a pleasure.
