Synopsis: Within the walls of Baalboden, beneath the shadow of the city’s brutal leader, Rachel Adams has a secret. While other girls sew dresses, host dinner parties, and obey their male Protectors, Rachel knows how to survive in the wilderness and deftly wield a sword. When her father, Jared, fails to return from a courier mission and is declared dead, the Commander assigns Rachel a new Protector, her father’s apprentice, Logan—the same boy Rachel declared her love for two years ago, and the same boy who handed her heart right back to her. Left with nothing but fierce belief in her father’s survival, Rachel decides to escape and find him herself. But treason against the Commander carries a heavy price, and what awaits her in the Wasteland could destroy her.

At nineteen, Logan McEntire is many things. Orphan. Outcast. Inventor. As apprentice to the city’s top courier, Logan is focused on learning his trade so he can escape the tyranny of Baalboden. But his plan never included being responsible for his mentor’s impulsive daughter. Logan is determined to protect her, but when his escape plan goes wrong and Rachel pays the price, he realizes he has more at stake than disappointing Jared.

As Rachel and Logan battle their way through the Wasteland, stalked by a monster that can’t be killed and an army of assassins out for blood, they discover romance, heartbreak, and a truth that will incite a war decades in the making.

Character Interview:

Rachel, Logan it’s wonderful to have you both here hanging out today. Thanks for stopping by and answering some questions for us. And since your story hasn’t been released yet and not everyone’s had an early chance to read the book, I’ll try to ask some general questions to keep the spoilers out of things.

This question is for both of you. What do you think the scariest thing in the Wasteland is? I mean other than the obvious for us readers?

Logan: Rachel. Have you seen her fight, yet?

Rachel: Very funny.  The scariest thing in the Wasteland is the absolute unpredictability. At any moment, you can be attacked by highwaymen, assassins, or the fire-breathing beast that lives underground.

Logan, are you working on any new inventions right now that you can tell us about?

I’m actually building something pretty big right now. The biggest invention I’ve ever built. If I get it done in time, I just might save our lives.

Rachel, have you been practicing your sword & switch skills these days? Or maybe I should ask Logan how you’ve been doing in your training?

I’ve been practicing a lot more than Logan has. He’s busy building a machine of some kind. I should drag him outside and take a swing at him just to remind him how to fight. ;D

Since things have been pretty hard on both of you lately, have there at least been little bits of happiness and joy for each of you? And if so, could you tell us about some of your happier times?

Logan: I’m happy every time I hold Rachel in my arms. I know that sounds sooo cliché, but knowing she’s still with me gives me hope.

Rachel: I’m happy when I’m with Logan and when I spend time with my best friend Sylph. Like Logan said, being with those I love gives me hope.

Logan, if you could wish one thing for Rachel, what would that be?

I’d give her back everyone she lost.

Rachel, same question for you… if you could wish one thing for Logan what would that be?

I’d do the same for him.

Here’s another question for both of you. When you look at each other now, after all the years and everything you’ve been through, what do you see now?

Rachel: I see a boy I can respect, both for his brain and for his loyalty. And I see that despite everything, he’s stronger than ever from the inside out.

Logan: I see a girl who always chooses to fight for those she loves. Also, I’ve recently noticed that she looks pretty amazing in a dress.

Rachel: That is NOT what she meant when she asked that question.

Logan: *grins*

Oh, I know something else I’d like to know. Could you describe each other in 3-5 words?

Rachel: Smart, Protective, and Cute

Logan: You think I’m ‘cute’??? Kittens are cute.

Rachel: You don’t like my word? Fine. I have another one all lined up.

Logan: *laughs* That’s okay! I doubt it’s fit to print on this blog. My three words to describe you are loyal, fierce, and absolutely beautiful.

Rachel: *blushes*

And lastly, with a story such as yours it always feels like things will get much worse before they get better. Do you think the worst is behind you or do you think you still have some major struggles and trouble ahead?

Logan: We know we have some major struggles in front of us. Or … hunting us, is perhaps more accurate. That’s why I need to go now and finish building my invention.

Rachel: *sharpens her knife* Oh, yes. They’re coming for us. But we’ll be ready.  *examines blade* We’ll be ready.

Rachel, Logan, thank you so much for the visit. I’m thrilled to have a chance to talk to each of you. It’s been a pleasure. I’m looking forward to seeing what happens next for you and everyone else.
