Synopsis: Every Day meets Cloud Atlas in this heart-racing, space- and time-bending, epic new trilogy from New York Times bestselling author Claudia Gray.

Marguerite Caine’s physicist parents are known for their radical scientific achievements. Their most astonishing invention: the Firebird, which allows users to jump into parallel universes, some vastly altered from our own. But when Marguerite’s father is murdered, the killer—her parent’s handsome and enigmatic assistant Paul—escapes into another dimension before the law can touch him.

Marguerite can’t let the man who destroyed her family go free, and she races after Paul through different universes, where their lives entangle in increasingly familiar ways. With each encounter she begins to question Paul’s guilt—and her own heart. Soon she discovers the truth behind her father’s death is more sinister than she ever could have imagined.

A Thousand Pieces of You explores a reality where we witness the countless other lives we might lead in an amazingly intricate multiverse, and ask whether, amid infinite possibilities, one love can endure.

Review: 4.5 Stars - A Thousand Pieces of You, the first title in author Claudia Gray’s Firebird series is a thrilling story that left me feeling dazed and wondering what the heck had I just read! It’s pretty wonderful, and there’s a beauty that can’t be ignored as Gray whisks her characters, as well as her readers on a journey through parallel universes.

Marguerite is the somewhat black sheep of her family. Or maybe I should say she’s a bit grey… she’s an artist, a painter, while her parents are brilliant scientists and her sister is following in their footsteps too. She’s interested in what they are working on but would much rather be painting. As her parents get closer and closer in their work on the Firebird, a device that’ll allow them to travel, if you will, to parallel universes it’s bound to draw some of the wrong attraction with its vast possibilities.

Along with her brilliant parents, they take physicist students under their wings who are also brilliant beyond their years to help tackle this massive challenge. One of those students is Theo. He’s out going, a little on the wild side and then there’s Paul, who’s a bit younger as he’s finished each step throughout his schooling ahead of everyone else his age. Where Theo is out going, Paul is more understated and much quieter. He’s understated in everything that Theo is, maybe even a bit awkward due to how fast he had to grow up.

So, when Marguerite’s father is killed and all signs point to Paul, who in turn vanishes without a trace, it’s assumed that he’s jumped into another dimension to escape. And this is where the story takes off and gets all twisty and bendy and you feel if you blink you might miss something.

I have no idea how the heck Gray kept up with this story while writing. It’s intricate and extremely impressive with how vast the world is and can be for these books. Gray’s imagination has one of the biggest play grounds to work within these books and is pretty epic!

And Gray’s writing… I’ve loved all of her previous books that I’ve read and this one is hands down in my opinion the best thing I’ve read from her yet! The worlds and how she’s blended them together, the smallest detail not being missed… brilliant! The only slight issue I had was the beginning felt somewhat confusing. However after about the first quarter of the book, everything fell into place and the rest was beyond smooth.

There’s so much to read and witness in this story as the characters journey from one universe to another. As the characters unravel the plot, just when you think you know what’s going on Gray throws Marguerite, Theo and Paul into another world with different rules, in a different time with different feelings with more of pieces of the puzzle coming forward you can’t help but experience a bit of awe.

This was without a doubt a pleasure to read and furthermore to look at. I mean that cover is breathtaking and fits the story so well. I loved everything about this title and can’t wait to find out what happens next! And while this is only the beginning of a trilogy/series have no fear future readers… there’s plenty of questions that are wrapped up, yet a much larger question that still looms. You won’t feel like you’re being led on in the slightest. I highly recommend this title to anyone who loves a great story that’ll keep you more than on your toes and some wonderful characters that’ll keep you invested from beginning to the very end. Also, the scientific parts of the story didn’t overwhelm you at all. It was just enough to give you an understanding to Gray’s method to her madness.

I can’t wait for more, so Gray, keep writing!! Happy Reading!

About the Author:

Claudia Gray is not my real name. I didn't choose a pseudonym because my real name is unpleasant (it isn't), because I'd always dreamed of calling myself this (I haven't) or even because I'm hiding from the remnants of that international diamond-smuggling cartel I smashed in 2003 (Interpol has taken care of them). In short, I took a pseudonym for no real reason whatsoever. Sometimes this is actually the best reason to do things.
I live in New Orleans. So far, in life, I've been a disc jockey, a lawyer, a journalist and an extremely bad waitress, just to name a few. I especially like to spend time traveling, hiking, reading and listening to music. More than anything else, I enjoy writing.
